Long time lurker, first time poster
Need some expert interpretation on the following MSDS. Below are the MSDS for Valvoline's conventional 75w90 and 80w90 gear oil. However, for the 75w90, they have 28-38% of "HYDROTREATED NEUTRAL OIL C15-30", while the 80w90 doesn't have any. Is that extra component in the 75w90 some sort of Group III "synthetic"? Thanks.

Basically, I am looking for transaxle oil for my 2004 WRX. The transmission shares its oil with the front differential (open). The spec is 75w90 GL-5 for all temeprature, and the chart also shows 80w too so 80w90 should also be fine in warmer climate/longer warm up.
I have basically ruled out full synthetic for my application after learning from the Impreza forum www.nasioc.com very mixed results on full synthetic. Many people complain on gear grinding with full synthetic. Of course, I am sure quite a few have good results too. The theory is that the synthetic is too slippery for the synchro to work, and depending on the person's driving style/shift speed, they grind.
Because of this, I am thinking of using a good conventional oil and replace often (15k miles). This Valvoline 75w90 have been used by quite a few people there with good results. Some people even went back from a full synthetic because of grinding, and with this oil they are happy again.
I may also consider the Schaffer's gear oil and also the Swepco 201 oil which is popular among the Porsche crowd, who also often complain on synthetic gear oil causing grinds in their transmission.
