Valvoline never passes up and opportunity for new packaging.
The API SP version listed "50% more wear protection" and 10x stronger against oil breakdown.Looks like they made some improvements in heat protection (20x). Sludge protection is average. Compare this to SS and you can see why the SS SA is 1.06.

after all the 90% more and 50% more and blah blah blah, one would think we would be unable to make a better product.Looks like they made some improvements in heat protection (20x). Sludge protection is average. Compare this to SS and you can see why the SS SA is 1.06.

Like LSJr says, he loves oil but HATES oil marketing.after all the 90% more and 50% more and blah blah blah, one would think we would be unable to make a better product.
Next generation: You won’t be able to understand a VOA bcs it will have metal in it that replaces wear metals in your motor !after all the 90% more and 50% more and blah blah blah, one would think we would be unable to make a better product.
I know what you mean.after all the 90% more and 50% more and blah blah blah, one would think we would be unable to make a better product.
if the metals and such as in the uoa, the filter is not catching it. I have to wonder if this can be counterproductive in older engines or can increase overall wear, while the product is workingNext generation: You won’t be able to understand a VOA bcs it will have metal in it that replaces wear metals in your motor !
(Takes 4 OCI’s) …
I suppose. Most of it is marketing imo. There are countless engine in the past that have made several 100k on ST for example. IMO, it more has to do with build quality than anything else.I know what you mean.
A lot of folks think all the top tier API oils are formulated to the bottom to just barely pass these tests. The little data that some of the majors give you show that is not the case. How many times have we heard "oh that's just an API oil".........
You’re forgetting that modern powertrains are significantly more demanding than the stuff from 20 years ago, so yes, today’s oils might be 1000% better than the stuff that a 1MZ Toyota may have been designed for.Point was having 90% better of something everytime they reformulate every few years, would mean that modern stuff would have 1000% better whatever than 20 years ago .........and i just dont see that being the case.
Sorry - I should have added a smiley to indicate sarcasm …if the metals and such as in the uoa, the filter is not catching it. I have to wonder if this can be counterproductive in older engines or can increase overall wear, while the product is working
...and that 1MZ will still just keep going and going, sludge and all, until someone thinks cleaning it out is a better idea. You’re forgetting that modern powertrains are significantly more demanding than the stuff from 20 years ago, so yes, today’s oils might be 1000% better than the stuff that a 1MZ Toyota may have been designed for.
