after all the 90% more and 50% more and blah blah blah, one would think we would be unable to make a better product.
I know what you mean.

A lot of folks think all the top tier API oils are formulated to the bottom to just barely pass these tests. The little data that some of the majors give you show that is not the case. How many times have we heard "oh that's just an API oil".........

Next generation: You won’t be able to understand a VOA bcs it will have metal in it that replaces wear metals in your motor !
(Takes 4 OCI’s) …
if the metals and such as in the uoa, the filter is not catching it. I have to wonder if this can be counterproductive in older engines or can increase overall wear, while the product is working

I suppose. Most of it is marketing imo. There are countless engine in the past that have made several 100k on ST for example. IMO, it more has to do with build quality than anything else.

Mostly, have have seen no data, from any fleet, showing for example:

150k with valvoline,
175k with Pennzoil
200 k with mobil
and 500k woth Amsoil

....on the regular.

Point was having 90% better of something everytime they reformulate every few years, would mean that modern stuff would have 1000% better whatever than 20 years ago .........and i just dont see that being the case.

You’re forgetting that modern powertrains are significantly more demanding than the stuff from 20 years ago, so yes, today’s oils might be 1000% better than the stuff that a 1MZ Toyota may have been designed for.

Nothing wrong with updating your packaging and keeping it fresh. Otherwise it turns stale, and people start looking for something that is "newer" and "fresher" on the shelves. Plus you never really need to question the quality of Valvoline. They have become one of those household names in which people can trust.

...and that 1MZ will still just keep going and going, sludge and all, until someone thinks cleaning it out is a better idea. 🤦‍♂️
Just drive the thing, we're not giving out any medals for the cleanest looking engines; I owned one, it was an awesome engine.

Actually, I owned two now that I think of it, a '97 and an '03.
