Valvoline DOT 3 & 4 Synthetic Brake Fluid

Whenever they start with that full synthetic nonsense I'll never buy it. All dot 3 and 4 is 100% synthetic no matter what.

If it says dot 3 and 4 then it's dot 4. Even in systems that call for dot 4 I'd still rather use dot 3. I don't run my vehicles hard nor does it get cold enough to where the low viscosity of dot 4 is beneficial but I'd rather it absorbs less water during the interval until i change the brakes and bleed them.

Although the labeling says it "surpasses" the specifications for DOT 3 and 4, where Gold Eagle does not provide a link to a MDS for this product, it seems safe to assume that the product only "surpasses" those specifications sufficient to ensure that, even with normal variations in their manufacturing process, it still meets the specifications. I wouldn't expect much more.

Look elsewhere if you are looking for a brake fluid that exceeds DOT 4 specs. Not trying to detract from your original question, but it is hard to beat Bosch ESI 6 Extended Service brake fluid, which exceeds DOT 3, DOT 4, and DOT 5.1, for performance and price. And they freely share their product performance data, not only on the can, but on their product website, and on their product literature.

I'm kind of glad that I looked this up, as I learned that Bosch ESI6 brake fluid meets DOT 4 LV. That is helpful for me, as the specs for both of my cars recommend LV brake fluid. Looks like I've been using the right thing all along.
