Valve seal questions

If the valve guide is worn it allows the valve stem to move around and keeps the valve seal from doing its job.

Symptoms of oil leakage around the valve stems is blue smoke on startup, blue smoke after deceleration or after going down a hill. Basically, blue smoke after there is high vacuum in the intake manifold.

This is why I (And many other people) simply have the head rebuilt if there is evidence of leaks at the valves.

No, the valve-to-seat contact is what seals the combustion chamber.
