Recent pics from a 1995 honda civic used conventional oil whole life with fram extra guard filters about 5k intervals. well did a oil change about two weeks ago, before i did that poured in a oil system cleaner. ran it for ten min drained, then poured in syntec blend 5w30 with mobil filter. two days before i did the oil change i looked in the oil fill hole and noticed everything was very dirty looking, alot of varnish

well my mom drove the car(her car)for about one week. noticed valve cover was leaking so replaced it and wow everything looks very clean underneath. maybe i didnt get a good look before i did oil change but maybe the cleaner helped? or i dont know i just thought i would share it with you guys

to all the fram haters...146,000 miles still no blown engine. had to say it

i used castrol syntec blend and its the companies name and on the bottle it says heartland oil system cleaner made by qmi.

Im glad the orange can hasnt killed your car, but after two first hand experiences seeing what Fram can do, I wont use anything but there extended guard. And there would have to be no other options for me to pay that much for what I can get in a Pure One for almost half price.

Also glad to see your oil and cleaner combo is working.

It looks like new! Are you saying that the inside of the valve cover is similar to what you originally saw on the engine itself before the cleaning agent? If so that product must be the best of its kind. Wow!

i dont plan on using the cleaner again. just run the blend. I am also happy that if the cleaner really did all that, my shop is not wasting money on the product.

Well I actually tried there engine flush and nothing happened so it looks like somthing that I'm gonna have to deal with.

right, because if you used anything cheaper than a Fram Extra Guard (like say a Super Tech from Walmart), the car wouldn't have lasted 146k miles

living in an easy climate and using an engine that is easy on oil couldn't be the reason why that engine lasted for such an enormously long time

Looks great. I removed mine this fall and looked like that (except my valve cover was spotless). 8 years on Mobil 1 15w50 in Caravan 10-12K ocis. I mostly used Fram also, but found out through coming here that I could get filters that are better and cheaper. So I figure, why not?

2-Butoxyethanol is a very polar hydroxy ether and will dissolve a lot of stubborn stuff! I have no dobt that is why the crud on the valve cover itself is apparently peeling off. Only problem might be getting little undissolved pieces caught in the oil galleys. Also, this stuff will strip the paint right off of your car so be careful with it.

Its just people make it seem fram is a horrible filter and will most indefinitley cause damage. I personally don't even like fram, I do wish mobil had that grippy stuff on there can.
