based on the info presented here, visit a number of shops to get a feel for how they operate and see if you might get a lower price. On odd occasions, even some dealers offer a better price.
Some indies even allow you to buy your own parts and they install them. If this is the case, get a good Felpro gasket from Advanced Auto (or elswhere). Shops tend to charge the list price or more for parts.
It's a fine line between developing a good relationship with a quality mechanic and trying to take advantage of them to get the job done cheaply.
Don't develop a guilt complex by those suggesting how easy this job is. Sometimes it's a smart decision to let somebody else do it based on your personal circumstances.
