Vacuum hose for evep system

Using vacuum hose on a California cars evap system will fail you on a smog test! My inspector failed my 92 SC400 for having a 5" long vacuum type hose coming off the charcoal canister to a hard line. He said it has to be evap rated ie. fuel rated. And of course the parts houses around here are all out of that size fuel line. I read in a past closed post that a guy replaced some lines on his Lexus with vacuum but that doesn't fly here in California....good luck.

Honestly if the hose gets brittle over time from the fumes it can be an issue. But if it stays pliable I think it should pass.

Do they proceed to the rest of the tests and tell you it's the only issue or not?

Law is they have to fail you, take your $$$ too.

Find you an indy smog shop, I use an old mom and pop garage and have no problems with passing smog, he's replaced numerous lines with vacuum lines and adjusted my carb on the Dyno.

It's like 50$ around here, I would be pissed off if they fail me twice without letting me know all the fixes I need at the first visit

If you look at specs for "emissions" hose there is a max permeability. All I can say is, wow, I've never known a mechanic to be that detail oriented. It's a 32 year old car and he went all "Rain Man" on it.

The vacuum hose used on EVAP system will rot from the inside out, but it's still OEM on a lot of vehicles (or at least it used to be).
