I have had a chance to test several oils in a 16HP V-Twin.

25-50 hrs between changes.

I will simplify ( sum up UOA's ) for sake of getting this off to a good begining:

M-1 Red Cap/ SilverCap and GoldCap 15W-50..Excellent.

Royal Purple 10W-30..so so.

Redline 15W-50...excellent.

Amsoil 20W-50...engine surged.

Amsoil ASE 10w-30...ENGINE INCREASED VIBRATION. DRAINED. Why?

Mobil 1 20W-50 V-Twin...a bit to heavy.

Motul 15W-50...engine RPM increased..a bit too much.

1/2 M-1 15W-50 GoldCap and 1/2 Motul 15W-50 ...absolutely outstanding. After 25 hrs perfectly clean...will go for 50 hrs.

I am using a M-1 102 oil filter. This filter is way better than the tiny B&S yellow filter.

This might be good for a whole season. It changed my thinking.

I respect all feedback. I am truly reporting my empirac findings and UOA'S.

My engine runs smoothest and coolest on Motul/M-1 GoldCap 50/50.

And Pete591, it's not that we don't appreciate efforts at testing ... but the results are VERY difficult to objectively quantify. When you say things like surging, etc ... it might help to note the amount of RPMs.

Regardless, expect lots of questions. :)

Pete, you've actually shelled out the bucks for EIGHT UOA's for your mower/tractor engine?!? Whew... You're a far better man that I!!

I will offer this challenge to any one BIOTG member:

You try out Motul 15W-50 mixed equally with M-1 15W-50 Gold Cap.
50/50 mix.

If you don't think your V-TWIN engine runss more vibration free and starts quicker. Then we will find a way for me to send you the money for your troubles.

There has to be a limit. So let's make the limit $50.00.
That should cover oil and oil filter in a V-Twin.

Hopefully a more senior member will take me up. SO as to pass on their finding on this thread.

Waht was so "so-so" about the Royal purple? I just bought a quart and used half in my Honda Pushmower for the end-of-season oil change (to be started next spring-done mowing here)???
