And you can explain that to them when you make a claim for the missing box.

It appears I won't have to file a claim...I called Verizon and they received the phone....checking the tracking number on the USPS site still shows nothing...I'm relieved it was delivered, but USPS' tracking system is the absolute worst!

You didn't use the USPS number..How could you..you didn't have the tracking number?
That number works 100 % of the time

Well my point was..you said "USPS' tracking system is the absolute worst! " Whch you would be basing on one event and then to boot you could not have tracked the item since you elected not jto track it and had no tracking number.

I am the last one to give the USPS a free ride bc their "Real" costs are not competitive. But I will not say that their services suck..they clearly don't.

I'm not basing my opinion of their tracking system on this one incident, I've had many problems with them in the past with their tracking system not reflecting what was actually taking place...and I don't know where you're coming up with this notion that I "elected" not to track the package and had no tracking number...that simply isn't the case...

Where was your tracking # when your daughter mailed it..did the mailbox spit it out?
Had Verizon not received your phone... YOU had no tracking number and no proof that you dropped it in the box.

Apparently you can't read. I said in an earlier post that Verizon emailed me the tracking number...

So YOU got the tracking number after they recieved the phone. ...lol. Why would you check the # after it was delivered? remember a package put in A MAIL BOX uses an internal tracking system. No need to publish it bc the presumption is that the person dropping the package in the mail is NOT TRACKING IT (he has no tracking #)!!!

No, the tracking number was emailed to me before Verizon received the phone, I just hadn't been checking my email for a while, so I didn't see it right away.

So did they email you a bare tracking number or did you get a copy of the mailing label with the tracking number and barcode? If it was just a number then it is no doubt likely it was incorrect.

USPS uses the same number for internal tracking of those packages as what is on the label and what you see on their website. It is unlikely that a package with a pre-printed tracking label would have made it all the way to the recipient without being scanned.

The email didn't have a bar code in it, so I'm guessing it was just the tracking number, and their tracking system still shows no status for the tracking number. If it was scanned, shouldn't it show that it was delivered?

Sure, if you are entering in the number that was actually on the package. That was my point. If Verizon sent you the wrong number then that isn't going to show anything.

It will only work if you are sure that the number you have is the one that was actually on the package. I've had companies give me incorrect tracking numbers before, and not just for USPS.

And I've had correct tracking numbers (many times) that show nothing when I tried to track them, even after the package had been delivered...

I must just have bad luck lately with shipping. Sunday the 16th I ordered a new wheel for my car from a company in Minnesota and figured I should have it in 2 to 3 days because I live in Northwest Indiana. Long story short the bar code sticker on the box get messed up and the wheel went from Minnesota, to North Carolina, to California, then trucked to Indiana. All of that run around took about a week The wheel was at the Fed Ex location in Hammond Indiana on Friday so I called and they told me that I could not pick up the package. It sat there all weekend less then 30 min away from my house and work.

During the same time I shipped a oil sample to Blackstone Labs on Monday the 17th with USPS. Made it to Chicago on the 20th and sat there for 5 days. Why, I don't know. According to tracking it made it to Brownsburg Indiana very early in the morning and then to Fort Wayne Indiana. This oil sample sat in Chicago for 5 days and now last minuet it been shipped all over the state. Still not delivered.
