My Dad has been using synthetic oil in the winter and conventional oil in the summer is there any thing wrong with this.

Thanks Andy

People here do it all the time, nothing wrong with it at all. I usually stick to either one or the other, but your Dad's engine will be just fine!

Welcome to BITOG!

My truck sees both on a regular basis. At 20K it has seen syn 3 times and dino 3 times. Still runnin fine.

No, there is a decent amount of people who do the exact same thing.

If I didn't enjoy the hunt for Synthetic deals, where it's common to buy for less than $2.00 a quart, that's probably what I'd be doing.

that's what i do, use a synthetic 5w30 and water it down with 1/3 part 5w20 "conventional". winters are brutal here, and the engines prefer a thinner oil.

I did the same thing for a long time and had no problems.
I bought way too much 0W-30 this year. So now I have to do a couple years of year round 0W-30 runs in the truck and van, to bring my stash back to a reasonable level. I kinda liked the dino in the summer feeling. Does that make me weird? My wife seems to think so, lol!

Speaking of a Scoobie mix. I made a full syn blend of 0W-20 and 5W-20 PP and QHP that is my current fill in the fusion. As soon as I see -40C's in the forecast my newly acquired Petro Canada 0W-20 comes out to play! My mix should fair fine but I just need an excuse to change my oil and try something new.
