I would like information on using quaker state Ultimate Durability full synthetic 10w30 that has 2 check marks on the seal additive on the container in my 3800-V6 Buick engine , verses next oil change using a non seal additive fully synthetic 10 w 30 like say Mobil 1 , will the seals or valve cover gaskets start leaking .

Not even a concern. Quaker State Ultimate Durability is on the same tier as Mobil 1 or PP synthetics. It's underrated but good.

Don't confuse gaskets with elastomer seals as they are usually made of different materials.

Seal conditioners in PCMO's are there to condition the seals which swells then about 3% during operation.

Thank you I was hoping on this answer.

Thank you

Thank you because I hear that if you use a sel sweller additive oil then you're committed to always using one so the seal dont shrink and then you have a leak even on the valve cover gaskets?

The seals will be worse off for having used oil with seal sweller in it, but whether they now leak depend on how bad they were. If they were bad enough to need seal sweller, yes the problem will be even worse after enough time using oil without it, in addition to the further aging and wear they would have anyway.

Use of synthetic oil will make the leaking even worse because of reduced sludge formation to slow down leaks. Go ahead and try it then switch back if oil loss is excessive.

Thanks Dave9
so the bottom line if the seals were that bad to have a leak and then I used a oil with a leak additive then I would be committed to always use that type of oil to keep the seals from leaking any worse or more?

If you have a leak and don't plan on fixing it then you'd pretty much be married to an oil "with a leak additive." If the additive or oil is successful in stopping the leak, stopping use of the product will likely result in leaks again. Keep in mind there are plenty of leaking engines that can't be helped with High Mileage oils or special additives to stop leaks.

I have found Pennzoil has the highest swell rate of oils I have tried. Mobil 1 High Mileage in my daughters Civic was still a leaker. I put Pennzoil High Mileage Syn and it doesn't leak.

demarpaint Hi , so which should I do I used Pennzoil platinum 6,000 changed to Quaker state fully synthetic with 2 check marks next to additives for seals the higher priced ones have 3 check marks meaning more additive . Im just ready to do an oil change with the Quaker , should I bring it back and stick to Pennzoil . the Pennzoil here is $28.00 per 5 Qts , the Quaker is only $18.00 .
