I'm not sure mmo has as much use as it did in the 70's and 80's. With the oils that did cause sludge problems then, a dose was not bad. I used it with havoline oil in the 80's. Todays oil is so much better , i have only used it when i bought a used car and put some in before changing it.

I hear that point brought up a lot, and I certainly agree in a certain context. If I bought new cars I'd never need most additives. However many of our "new" cars now come into our hands with around 100k on them, so it's a gamble. My Jeep was like that, runs great and I've got it in good shape but it is grundgy inside the engine.

I agree, thats probably what its best for now. In the 70's 80's I and a lot of other people used it with every oil change to prevent sludge, even in low mileage cars. We just don't have to do that any more.

OTOH there are a handful of well maintained cars with sludge prone engines even using "today's" modern SN oils. A little preventative maintenance can certainly help. Opinions vary. I know one thing, there was a recent thread about a Honda engine where the owner used the proper oil and followed the OLM and had a mess inside his engine. There are other stories scattered about this site of similar problems following the OM. Many people find out when its too late that they had an engine prone to sludge or problems related to it. Maybe a dose of MMO or Kreen every 20,000 miles, give or take could reduce or eliminate problems. Not everyone has the luxury or being able to look down the fill hole, or pull a valve cover to see what's going on. YMMV
