Useless Craigslist car ads posted by people who haven't a clue how to sell anything.

I am sorry going off topic here. I came across this one yesterday. It's an original too.
Haha funny thing, he said it's not rusty,I just looked as his pics and it's covered in rust and corrosion. The $20 he said someone offered him is about all it's worth imo.

Saw a truck listed on FB market place and the first thing said was something to the effect of "this truck needs nothing"

And then as you read, the A/C doesn't work, tires need replacement, there is an exhaust leak, a headlight doesn't work, etc.

I wish I had copied the text because I found about 6 things it needed as indicated by the seller.

Which is it? Does it really need nothing or does it need these 6 or so things?

I guess he's right in a sense, it doesn't need "nothing",it needs "EVERYTHING!!" haha!!

The CL poster says he has no time to waste.

Yeah those ads are always funny. I like the ones that list a whole bunch of stuff that's been repaired and then at the end, it says very reliable.

CL is always good for chuckles. Charging $5 per auto ad did help weed out the worst, but even then, lots of bad ads IMO. But I still look, after all it costs nothing to see what is for sale.

Didn't know they started charging. Good for them, hopefully that will help. We have bought I think 3 vehicles off Craig's list but none recently. Even then it took a lot of digging and patience to find the car and type of legit seller we were looking for.

Yeah, I forget, been 2 years now? Only for auto ads, so spammers show up elsewhere (although I haven't noticed as many lately).

I put an old Civic on Craig's list once.
I put up pictures and repeated several times that this car was not a cream puff but very rough inside and out.
The only thing good about the car was that it ran great and had good tires.
I had the price at $400.
One person wanted to make payments and I told him fine when its paid for you get the car and title.
Nope wanted the car signed over and then make payments. LOL.
About a dozen people made appointments and not a one showed up.
I finally sent it to the recycler for a couple hundred.
Too many bad things have happened with Craig's list I now stay away.

It's everyone, even the 'professionals' at car dealerships. I just messaged a dealership in Houston about a car I'm interested in. I specifically asked if the air conditioning is functioning, and if they have any records regarding the timing belt. A simple "no" would be a totally acceptable answer to either point...I just want to know.

Response: Good Morning Charles...2 OWNER CAR WITH 66000 ORIGINAL MILES GARAGE KEPT ALL ITS LIFE. LIKE NEW INSIDE AND OUT ALL ORIGINAL. RUNS AND DRIVES PERFECT COLD A/C NEW TIRES POWER LOCKS AND WINDOWS 5 SPEED TRANSMISSION.

I didn't e-mail them requesting the marketing jibber jabber about the car. But I got it. Now I know about the A/C. I wonder how many e-mails it will take to get their answer about the timing belt (which will be "I dunno"). It's not just Craigslisters.....it's almost everyone in the business too.

The internet sales rep there is probably the daughter of the service manager. A millennial who doesn't know anything about cars and spends all day on her phone.

When I found out that I could get $290 for my 1995 Escort from an online JY, I didn't even consider trying to sell it on CL or FB, etc.

I can't really complain too much about CL. I had the Fiero listed here, multiple car groups and the Marketplace on Facebook, and the Fiero Forum, and it sold in a day on CL. But it's a very niche vehicle that probably didn't appeal to the PAYMENT crowd, or the flakes that don't show up. The first guy to look at it, bought it on the spot. My biggest gripe with CL is people e-mailing me questions about stuff that appears clearly in the text of my ad. GRRRRR

That’s a myopic statement, I know plenty of people of a variety of age groups and the vast majority have no inclination or idea about cars. This is either an automated responder or a brain-dead car salesman. The VP of my division at my old company tried hiring a bunch of used car salesmen to save money not a single one of them worked out at all, they all just wanted to fireback scripts and make 200 calls a day and send 4000 emails a week, they simply were incapable of having business conversations. Very hard to train I’m sure there are good people in the auto sales but a lot of people in that business have zero idea about the product they sell it’s just an easy job to get.

To be fair, they probably get a lot of inquires and maybe they were in cut and paste mode. I do that sometimes with my rentals. I got about 50 responses to my ad and half of them don't respond back. The other half responds back and sometimes half of them die out either not qualified not not suitable for them. Out of that quarter I try to set up appointments and maybe half of them actually set a date and time and one or two will flake out and not show at the last minute. On a used car, I wouldn't expect the dealer to know anything about the timing belt, only buying directly from the previous owner would tell you that. Usually no info goes to the dealer when they buy a used car.

A bit off topic.
I saw an ad on Craig's list for a high end used telescope for $15000.
The copy said if you have to ask questions about this telescope then it's not the one for you.

To clarify, I didn't really expect they would have timing belt information, but I asked if they did, to which I got no answer.
