Used motor oil on a tree stump

Your future hazmat cleanup will cost you more than hiring someone to grind it out (last one I work with only charge me $125). Do you just want it rot away or do you want it not to grow back? I don't think oil will make it rot faster (on the other hand it may preserve it better like putting garlic in olive oil).

If you have plenty of time nature will take care of it.

I just had 2 bushes to remove. Who would have thought that they had 3-4" stumps at the bottom! I sawzall'd as close to the ground as I could and then drilled multiple holes and filled with 30% vinegar. AC Condenser is being installed in one of the bush areas so there is no change they are ever sprouting again.

Because that's not how Roundup works . It has to be absorbed by the foliage .

No. Glyphosate only has to be absorbed into the system one way or another. It tends not to be absorbed through dry, woody portions of a plant, but can be absorbed through something like a recent cut. It's actually recommended for treating stumps. Some call it a "cut and paint" where it's cut and then spread concentrated with a paintbrush on the recent cut. This instruction is to drill holes and drop concentrate in the holes.

1.Cut it low

Using a handsaw or chainsaw, cut the living stump as close to the ground as possible. The less stump left behind, the faster it will decompose.

2. Drill holes in the stump

Drill holes into the outer ring of the stump, just inside the bark layer—this is the "living" part of the tree. Holes should be 1/4″ wide and at least 1″ deep and should be spaced about 1″ apart.

3. Apply Roundup® concentrate

After drilling your holes, Immediately pour undiluted Roundup® Weed & Grass Killer Super Concentrate or Roundup® Concentrate Poison Ivy Plus Tough Brush Killer into the holes—use enough to fill them.*

4. Wait for the stump to die

This application will kill the stump In 2-4 weeks, without causing it to rot.

It binds very tightly to clay soils, so it tends not to affect roots. But some people think it can't get absorbed through roots, when it absolutely can if they're exposed or if the soil is saturated, like with a concentrate poured directly into the soil near roots.

However, there are different versions of Roundup and quite a few no longer use glyphosate. The brand name has transcended its origins as representing a specific chemical.

I have killed trees drilling 1/2” X 5” deep holes at 45° angles - filling holes often with neat Roundup …
Stumps? Cut a grill pattern with chainsaw and salt often …

I just had a tree removed from my front yard because it blocked the sun, blocked my view of the street for security, shed too much sap, etc...etc..

My neighbor said to drill multiple 1" holes in the stump and CAREFULLY pour dirty oil in them to kill the roots and destroy it. Truth or fiction?

Would diesel be even better?

Those powdered stump removal chemicals at the hardware store get mixed reviews so I'm looking for something I don't have to revisit.
Alot of places will comevout for a minimal charge and have a stump grinding machine. It won't leave anything behind

One of the worst marketing moves I've witnessed. Imagine you think you are applying lawn-safe "Roundup pre-emergent" herbicide but you accidently grabbed the container of Roundup glyphosate. Yikes. It would be like reaching for "Charmin toilet paper" but instead you grabbed "Charmin wipes acid toilet disinfectant".

Also if you don't have nearby neighbors you can just pile a bag of charcoal on it and let her go. Did that to one but it simmered for 3 days. Did the job well.

I had a buddy do the exact thing. His beautiful three acre yard was dead. We all got a kick out of it. He was a good sport with all the ripping

I've found that if I pee in the same spot behind the shop nothing grows. So, my vote is go pee on it everyday as often as possible.

Sounds practical, free, and I don't see what could possibly go wrong??? :D BITOG wouldn't dare allow foul language but I don't think there's a prohibition on registered sex offenders, so even if you get arrested you can tell us your story. You'll be providing entertainment for us all 😜 (and the EPA won't be upset!!)

drill some holes in the stump, and pour in this stuff called stump rot, or I have heard some drain cleaner crystals work too.

Drill holes, pour baking soda to dissolve the cellulose and accelerate decomposition.

Or hire a stump grinder to take care of the problem in a day versus years.
