USB and Keyboard issues.

Running Win 7 64 bit with the latest drivers and updates.

It takes a long time for Windows to see a new USB device when plugged in and at startup. Sometimes up to a minute. Once it is recognized all works well but if I unplug it and then plug it back in it still takes a long time to see it.

My keyboard at times (non USB) will be unresponsive on just certain keys. One problem is the space bar not always working. Another is the capital A will not work unless the caps lock key is held down.

It's the same keyboard and driver I've been using and if I try a new identical keyboard the problem stays. After a while it all starts working again.

I've reloaded the drivers time and time again.

you dont list enough information to really get any detailed help.

at least include the computer model

otherwise you will get at least as much help on google as here.

Get into your BIOS and see if there's a USB keyboard legacy mode support. Try turning that on and off.

I'd also see if there's a BIOS firmware update. Try forcing USB versions 1.1 or 2 to see if that makes a difference.

Agree. Sounds like a USB issue at a motherboard level, not OS level.

I figured it was motherboard problem and have reflashed the bios and updated the Intel drivers for the chipset. It's a Lenovo IdeaCenter K330a.

I'd try a different USB port & see if you get the same results.

Does the board only have the Intel USB controller or is there a 3rd party on-board USB controller as well?

Lenovo no longer shows this particular model for drivers. I'm asking then about that now.

I have tried different ports and there's no change. I do run most off of a USB hub. I suppose I should try a different one.

What's the number on the sticker (not the model number of the PC) for it? It will be similar to a DELL service tag.

Have your power supply checked (or replaced temporarily). I had USB problems in my desktop 2 years ago, and it turned out to be a weak power supply. USB sockets did not work right. But otherwise the desktop worked well enough. Why only the USB? Because the USB sockets derived their power directly from the power supply's 5 V main circuit. The rest of the motherboard's power requirements came from either the 12 volt bus or the 3.3 volt bus.

is it a powered or unpowered usb hub?

try unplugging everything and just mount and keyboard plugged directly into the computer.

since both are unpowered if your hub does not have an ac adapter(or sometimes even if it does)

it can cause issues.

It is a powered hub.

The USB wait happens on all USB devices. This just got worse too over the last month.

The keyboard is very intermittent. Though sometimes it takes a long time to get windows going and when it finally begins to finish loading windows after the start screen you can hear the audio card initialize and the keyboard lights come on.

The keyboard acts really weird when it's not working.

Does the problem persist if you just use the USB ports on the PC (no hub) ?

The keyboard problem is still there. I have some USB keyboards but have not tried them.

Wait, you are using a PS/2 keyboard?

Yes. It frees up the USB ports.

OK, so you are having two separate problems here then? IE, your keyboard acts goofy (and it is PS/2) AND your USB is slow when you have the hub present?

But with the hub removed, the USB problem goes away, but the keyboard is still goofy?
