We get a fair bit of American money up here.

It's pretty noticeable in our coinage, and a lot of vending machines will take American or Canadian. I think I have an American $20 in my wallet right now.

We can get accounts in American money for those who do a lot of purchases. I just use my Canadian credit card, and it converts the money automatically, charging me a hefty service charge of course, but I still save money in most cases buying from the States.

Up here, some stores will give exchange. Some won't. Most will take American one way or another. Of course, credit and debit card usage up here has gone up so much, it's not like it used to be when I was a kid. As a kid, most local stores would post the American exchange rate at the counter.

Well, I wish that your government would give you a break on the lower US prices.
From what I understand, the Canadian medical field is the best in the world. Lower prescription prices, lower Dr. bills, better Drs., etc. I am on a couple of medications, and am always reading/hearing about buying Canadian medicines are well over half the price as what we pay here in the US. Also, is it true that the Canadian government doesn't stick their nose into the medical field like they do here in the US?

Canada stopped making pennies in 2012 and stopped distributing them in 2013. They're still legal tender, but only banks will take them. Now the nickel is the smallest cash coin, though pennies are used in debit- and credit-card sales. Every once in a while there are noises about killing the nickel, too.

If you find any Canadian penny in your possession, it's been in the U.S. for at least five years. Even one Canadian penny in circulation in the U.S. is more than in circulation here.

It's our nutty retailers. As for the medical field, believe me, the government sticks their noses into things, but they're all used to that here.
