There is no problem for me that Mobil 1 is switching to Group3, I am using RP. At least I know what I get(except Synerlec).

...and you're getting what? Seems like no one is really sure if RP is a "true" synthetic or contains some Group III.

Just noticed that the EXXON website that stated that a "Fully Synthetic" motor oil contains 70 to 80 percent PAO.

Seems that that information is no longer valid. That changed in the last 2 days.

Why am I surprised

Link doesn't work less that 45 mintues later. I think that they are onto us.

I just got back from Walmart with 3 jugs of PP....$18 for 5 quarts. If M1 is GPIII I am not wasting my $$ until it's the same price as PP.

Just a hypothetical question, but, why would anyone be surprised if a company substituted a component of their product if it would increase profits? Especially, if they don't have to disclose what composes their product.

Mickey:

Why is it that Mobil steadfastly refuses to clarify the presence or absence of Group-III in Mobil 1? They're hiding behind the "trade secret" idea, but no one is asking for the precise recipe, just this one aspect. I'd be much more inclined to accept your argument if Mobil weren't continuing to artfully dodge our questions by using the now-infamous "full synthetic" wiggle word vocabulary.

Regarding "Why is it that Mobil steadfastly refuses to clarify the presence or absence of Group-III in Mobil 1?" Mobil does NOT steadfastly refuse to clarify for me, for some strange reason. The ExxonMobil lubrication engineers I work with make it very clear that Mobil 1 and Delvac 1 are PAO based oils; which means the base stock used to make the oils is PAO, not Group III. How much clearer does it need to be.
Soooo, the word Steadfastly is a bit overstated.. Some folks have not been satisfied with their response while others (me included) have been that Mobil 1 is a PAO based synthetic oil.

If ture, why don't they just make it clear "PAO based" in stead of the infamous "full synthetic" in any written public materials such as on their website? Your allegations still fail to make your point trustworthy.

Hey Mobil, I don't want the recipe and instructions, I just want to know about G-III. If y'all won't give us this much, I'm not giving y'all any more of my $.

If the product does what you want, buy it.

If it doesn't, don't.

George, that corresponds to what I've heard from the folks I know.

I see EOM left a psychological imprint on you...you're acting just as haughty as your former employer.

There's really no excuse for abrasive attacks.

ExxonMobil doesn't owe you anything more than the container you purchased filled with the product you wanted.

If it does what you wanted, then you've been treated fairly.

If it does not, they're pretty good about giving you just compensation.

If you want to buy a motor oil from spec sheets, go to Amsoil.

George:

No disrespect intended toward you, but for now, I stand by my post, as worded, including my choice of the word "steadfastly". I've asked twice now since this mess erupted, and received the same stonewall of non-answers. Other members have reported receiving the same treatment. Apparently, you've got better access than I do. Would you care to provide me the email adddress or tel number of someone at EM who might be more forthcoming with me?

What baffles me is that I've been quite clear that I'm not looking for precise formulae or blending instructions, just an answer w/r/t the G-III question. Again, so far all I've received is wiggle words. Can you blame me for concluding that G-III might have crept into the mix?

I do not know why.

In general ExxonMobil does not disclose the makeup of any of its finished products in the retail markets. If you're buying chemicals, additives, or basestocks it's another matter.

I assume, first, that stating that product A is XYZ leaves them open to implied warranties, which could run them into problems as products are reformulated due to improvements, new developments, or manufacturing exegencies. For example, at various times plants go down for maintainence or due to natural disasters.

ExxonMobil sells a level of performance, not a fixed batch of ingredients.

Also, giving technical information to non-technical people can lead to all sorts of problems, as the entire flap over two little GCs Tom NJ ran in his spare time is illustrating.
