UPDATE: 2015 Silverado Double Cab 4x4

I put 2000km in 5 days on a 2015 5.3 double cab. (GM rental)
The solution to the frequent shifting under moderate load?
Put it in tow mode on hills or place it in "M" and down shift it yourself.
The 3.42 gear is a must with these trucks, a 3.76 or 4.10 would be fine with me.
But so would the 6.2 and the 22" tires.
I averaged 10.2L/100km loaded one way and higher speed the other in mountainous terrain.

I can smell a 2015 3500 167.7 CC SLT DuraMax in the next few weeks.

You really don't need to do anything since the transmission or truck isn't being harmed in any way. I have 50,000 miles on my Silverado with the funky transmission, about 15,000 of that towing. The transmission is still operating the way it came from the factory (as it is-good or bad).

It was a GM rental under the extended warranty program. Just the clutch fan on my Dmax.
I went over 3 mountain passes and back again with grades up to 14%.
If it's one thing I can't stand, is a vehicle that shifts up and down 10 times on a hill.
Even though the truck was not my own, I just can't see that being good for the transmission.
Besides, it's annoying.
The fuel economy was fantastic in my opinion.

Another reason why manual gears are better..

but oh so inconvenient...if they can just sort out those dual clutch transmissions.

They are sorted out good enough for me.
Tow mode is like a sport setting, higher rpm shifts and a lower gear selection.
If that doesn't do it for me, I can select M and hold the truck in one gear going up, or down hill for engine braking.
That does not seem like a lot of work or a major inconvenience.

Now traction control...don't get me started on how useless that is.

They must be. That's all I see parked at the Sikh Temple on Marine Drive.

The Italians are going to need to get rid of Chrysler/RAM/Jeep sooner or later to prop up the disaster called Fiat. It will be interesting to see who acquires RAM/Jeep the only two divisions that are worth something.

I rode in a 2015 Chrysler 300C today and it is a helluva sweet car in all black with the gunmetal rims.

I am disappointed to hear your review of the new Silverado, but it doesn't surprise me. Many people love them too. With what these cost, I don't think you have to get used to anything, it should be fine from the start. I honestly don't know what I would get if I didn't have my current truck. I am a longtime GM guy, but each new generation has me liking my older truck a little more.

One day, I'll be an old guy driving his 42 year old truck as his daily driver with the dashboard calendar that expired 7 years ago.....ha ha.

is it?
I've had it a month and a half. And its a lease. The $80 box lighting kit is awesome and it hauled the kids go kart fine. Are you happy now?
.

Whoa.. your entire first post was about mileage and creature comforts and how much better the Dodge rides and how nice it sounds..no disrespect intended.

And it's a shame you had to settle for your 2nd choice because of lease terms. After 1000 miles are you wishing you'd leased the Dodge for more money?

They are nice cars but they are not selling.

The ride is the difference between a leaf spring suspension and coil overs. On the RV boards the guys are complaning about rearend sag in and towing with the coil over suspension. The rest of the stuff like the trans shifting I get, but a smooth ride in a truck is not my main concern if I bought it to tow or haul.

No. Money is the key factor. It'll be gone in 22 more months. It is fine, but it is NOT as good as the Dodge.

Right, but those people should've been smarter when buying. The MAJORITY of trucks being driven as daily drivers rarely have heavy loads being hauled and usually just do some light towing. If you NEED a truck to do things like haul heavy loads and tow heavy objects, then it is their own dumb fault for buying a truck without the proper suspension.

Just wait until winter than you can complain about GM's awful defrost vents on the new trucks that cover only the middle V of the windshield.

As for the tailgate throw a DeeZee shock on the Ram for $20 and your all set.

Peeps like the GM's but they are like sitting on packing crates compared to the other trucks.

Love that line. Really sums it up. And I am a die hard GM fleet owner who loves them for making money.

BUT, no way can you knock the RAM unless you've not seen what is available. My trucks rated to tow over 10k pounds and its payload is just shy of one ton. WAY more capacity than we are ever likely to need.

Almost 20k miles and loving every minute I get in it...

I don't find the coil suspension to sag any better or worse than any other truck. I have had up to 1200 pounds in mine and it reacts about the same as my old Silverado.

Sag with a trailer is decent, I towed a 4k tongue heavy landscape trailer the other day and it hardly sagged at all.

Maybe I'm not doing enough "truck" like stuff with my little light duty half ton. Its a half ton I'm not going to hook at 12k trailer up to it even if the marketing department says I could. For half ton stuff it works just like any other one.

I hope you don't mean 4k tongue weight...any truck would sag with that.

I don't have dog in this fight, just that the guys towing trailers similar to mine on the RV board were complaining about sag. My tongue weight is about 800 lbs.
The reason for such a nice ride is the suspension. Noting more, nothing less.
