UOA...Blackstone?

I see that Blackstone is a site sponsor...and am curious if Blackstone is the "dominant" UOA vendor?

Are there any particular differences between say the Amsoil UOA service and the Blackstone service?

What % of the posted used oil analysis likely come from Blackstone??...what other vendors would be frequently used?

Are the sample bottles "standard"? or doeas each ahve their own bottles?

Getting ready to do my first UOA on my 2004 Totota Land Cruiser w/7,500 miles on Mobil 1 5w30 w/Toyota filter. 60K total miles.

Blackstone, dyson analysis, is a couple more.

Blackstone is ok for basic analysis. Is the one I use and a lot of people use.

Dyson is more pricey but you get a very good interpretation of your results. From what I hear well worth it.

Choose any analysis lab out there. Blackstone is fine. If you see "issues" get Terry to look at it for his fee. Then use his service from there on out. He'll straighten you out on correcting whatever is out of whack. There are some services/situations that have no effective remedy ..but they're very few in number. Terry's service is a bargain for all the tests that he includes (TAN/TBN/Oxidation/Nitration ..and more). He gives an audio file with the text download. You get to follow through the numbers right on the screen with him talking in the background. It's a great value added feature.

They all have errors greater than us wankers will admit. Blackstone is pop. OAI is fine, and I just like the convenience of prepaid UPS, TBN included no extra charge.

OAI include TBN and also oxidiation and nitration if the oil is Amsoil I believe.

How do the reports and the info they provide compare? Do both have as good reporting relative to "similar" engine results? Do both have good online tracking of a particular vehicl history?

Is it a good choice to get the Dyson through Blackstone?

You're looking for "trends". There's going to be lab error between labs ..but it tends to be consistent within a given lab.

Blackstone uses a composite/average of all engines of that class in their UA. I don't know if it is differentiated by model ..but it's basically all the samples for elements and mileage averaged. I don't know if they have a rejection rate over so many standard deviations or not. I don't think it's that sophisticated.

I don't know about OA ..but I assume that they're in business for a good reason.

Terry has a data base of engine signatures that he uses to figure out what's "unright" about your engine's condition. He knows what "should be". I highly recommend him ..if for nothing more than the experience of the interpretation. It's very informative.

If you want a read from Terry, it is cheaper to get the analysis directly from Terry. Just Google "Dyson Analysis". Price is $60 so it is expensive, but it is worth it in my opinion. I have used Blackstone and they are good too, but their Flashpoint and Fuel Dilution #s can be off.
