UOA 07 Subaru Turbo Castrol 0w30 Euro @ 4700mi ( 127k) on vehicle

Sorry if double post....my first UOA upload attempt

Note how different the 2 UOA's are (calcium, molyb, mag) though both are the "same" 0w30 BC. The earlier UOA reflects 0.25 qt of Castrol US 5w/30 added @ about 1k miles before drain. I can't believe it is responsible for such different numbers (only 0.25 qt)

The 2016 was my 2nd fill of this 0w30, and the fills in between were also the same.

Not that it really matters, but I was wrong: The 2016 sample was from the FIRST time I used this oil. Was using M1 prior (I used to mix 5w30 with 0w40, but never did a UOA.). So maybe the oil chemistry itself changed since 2016, or maybe there was enough M1 left in crankcase etc from prior fill (and/or the US Castro makeup add) to cause the different Ca/Mg/Mo readings.

Castrol 0W-30 is an API SL, A3/B4 oil (full SAPS "Euro" oil). Definitely not d1g2.
 
Bump, latest UOA. Explanation: the 2016 & 2018 UOA’s were done by Blackstone. The BStone comments were from 2018. The “handwritten” results are most recent, 4756 miles, “same” Euro Castrol 0w30 SL A3/B4. But from Amsoil/Polaris. So Polaris provides some different info...noted. BTW, Polaris comments were kinda clueless...mostly focused on what could be the source of all that Titanium. Doh, It’s Castrol Edge. But, looks rock-steady. FWIW, this is 4756 miles instead of the Subaru recommended 3750 (which probably did not reflect synthetic). Next fill, is a ~45%/55% mix of Euro Castrol 0w30 & 0w40. My 0w30 source dried up.

If only my Ford Ecoboost UOA’s were half as good (of course I am running those OCI’s much longer).

looks very good, i was particularly surprised at how well your intake must be filtering given the silicon levels. my eye always wanders down to Potassium/Sodium on a subaru engine and it appears yours still has nice tight head gaskets...still original? nice low oil usage too, my old EJ25 would eat about 1.5qts over a 6-7k mile run.

that's a relatively rare car you've got btw! always loved the Legacy GT and OBXTs, particularly in 5 speed trim. as i recall the ultimate rarity for that time period was a LGT wagon or Baja XT in manual form.
 
Thanks Scotty. Bought car ~9 yrs and about 84,000 miles ago. More city than highway (at least by hours. The occasional trip to Mom’s which consists of 275-300 miles round trip may skew the mileage a little more toward “highway mile” and of course, some of the commute miles were “highway”). I had 1 dealer oil change I can’t 100% vouch for (though it was supposedly some sort of Mobil syn), the rest I can personally vouch for: full synthetic: mostly M1 (5w30/0w40 blend) from 55k to 100k (one Amsoil fill by shop that did the work listed below), and this Castrol Euro since then (100k-136k). So, yeah, no wonder it’s doing well. Knock on wood.

Yes, it’s a 5-sp manual 😎. Stock motor. Bilstein suspension 🤣😁, Cobb sway-bar 😆. Original head gaskets, etc, though clutch, water pump, timing belt proactively replaced about 40k ago. All black obsidian, not two-tone. May be on market a year from now (when payments on the Ford van are history, and ASSUMING I can find a worthy successor). Despite all this, I drive like a little old lady (OK, maybe a little old lady who’s late for church). Never tracked.

Disappointed Subaru is all-in with CVT (except on base models and STI).

nice! absolutely love the single-tone cars, i rarely ever see them anymore. yours is just about perfectly modified in my opinion. a few nice suspension bits where it counts, and leave the rest alone since its already a quick car. i can tell you right now, it'll sell in probably a day or two max when the time comes you put it up on the market.

glad to hear its treated you well. i put about 110k miles on my old 2.5RS (i was the second owner) and it put up with endless abuse from track, autocross, and rallycross racing. outside of fresh head gaskets at 88k miles it was largely a gas and go car. i've always looked at the legacy/outback turbos as some of the the best subaru enthusiast cars to come out of their "golden age" in the mid 00's when they were building a performance model of every single car they offered.
 
I guess we are way off topic, but I’ve lusted over LGT / spec B brakes and transmission. That said, the brakes have been great in DD operation. Finally replaced original front rotors last week (136k). Transmission shifts smoothly. The Cobb rear sway was awesome upgrade, with Perrin mount reinforcements, but the real transformation was the Bilstein BTS springs, Bilstein B6 front mono tube struts (upgrade for the Legacy spec B) and TRULY unique JDM rear Bilsteins with adjustable ride height (like the Legacy B6’s but longer...needed for an Outback wagon). I’ve never driven a full-on BTS-equipped OB, but this setup is lower, just “north” of std Legacy ride height (maybe a tad taller), so believe lower than the full-on BTS, but by no means slammed. It was hell sourcing the rear shocks, getting Bilstein to revalve them (rear), which did help a little, accidentally finding and sourcing the BTS springs out of New Zealand, and putting it all together. Local shop catering to euro/Japanese racers did the alignment, no issues. I won’t say it’s BMW sophistication, but certainly not BMW fussiness. PLUS, AWD 😛, which matters even here in North Texas...where it used to snow...still, so stable on somewhat “flooded” streets. What is hydroplaning???

Now I just keep the oil(s) fresh, and drive it; most of my vehicle-modification efforts go into the Ford Transit camper van. Wish it were AWD.
