Unkillable Briggs- Part 3: The revival!

Well.... I put it in and ran it for a bit.. The knock has almost disappeared, but is usually present but much quieter. Oh, it smokes like a dog. Especially at the lowest possible speed. It smokes less at a higher RPM. The valve spring cover doesn't seal, it leaks very rapidly out of that. Part of the crankcase gasket broke off when I took it apart, so there is some leakage around there, and the shaft bearings that come out the bottom has a pretty decent leak too. Running, it is flinging oil all over the inside of the deck and onto the ground. But we'll see what it looks like tomorrow. It definitely sounds alot better though.

On another but related topic, I put the rest of the 2/3 of the can in my car, and went for a 80 mile drive up to/through the mountains and back. Power increase? Maybe. Will know more tomorrow after it's had time to set. Seems to run smoother. Engine braking is much more effective than it was before. Oh, and it has made the ever-so-mysterious valvetrain tick go away. I noticed it after I started when leaving a lake, that it doesn't have the metallic tick it had anymore. Woohoo!

Glad it worked out in your car. As far as the knock in the Briggs getting better - sound's good so far. Also sounds as if most of it's leaking is from bad/missing/broken gaskets.

Now, the moment we've all been waiting for.....
Pics.......

As Paul Harvey used to say, "And now, the Rest of the Story".

Well????
