Giving this a try based on @shortyb recommendo to boost filtering of f. dust with my presumably AEM.dry flow filter that's letting some f. dust in. Wrapped it and used zip ties to secure. Not perfect but should do the trick

Looks almost factory 😁. Forgot to mention, if you still see any fine dust/dirt in the intake tube post filter after you clean it up, you may have to use some grease at all the joints to seal things up. Had to do that on the silicone hose of the Racingline R600 box I had on my old GTI.

@shortyb so removed the main filter housing to inspect. Hose is clean. I think I have sorted this issue! Uni filter is grimy so I'll clean re-oil next oil change and hopefully SiO2 in my next UOA is normal.

Uni filters do a pretty good job of dust removal because there’s no single path for air to take through the filter. So any dust particles end up flung against the tacky oiled surface.

They are perfect for pre-filters for an otherwise underperforming filter (i.e. K&N).

UNI actually tests their filters in high dust environments like Baja. While my dislike of oiled gauze filters is well-documented here, oiled foam is NOT the same- it has much better filtration.

The downside to oiled foam is that it needs frequent service to maintain its performance. If left in place too long, they get really restrictive really fast.

In a pinch, chainsaw bar and chain oil makes excellent foam filter oil.

What can you contribute towards establishing a maintenance/oiling/cleaning routine for someone like TiGeo or myself, trying to get extremely high quality filtering while deviating from the factory intake setup?
