UNEXPECTED Lifter Noise with ARX Maintainance Dose

Well, this was a bit of a surprise.

I have a 98 Hyundai Tiburon with the 2.0L that has 122K miles on it. Done 2 ARX full cycles. Since then, I have only used Mobil 1 Extended Performance oil and have alternated between LC20 and am now on the ARX Maintainance dose. (On seperate oil changes)

The car was in the bodyshop for 5 days in cold conditions. When started, a loud cyclical sound eminated and it was clearly lifter clanking.

I was surprised to hear this since ARX has been known to solve lifter noise and the maintainance dose shouldn't have allowed that. This was the FIRST time I've heard the noise since I've owned the car

Is this normal? The sound hasn't returned since then.

Auto-RX is known to solve lifter noise when the cause is dirty valvetrain. Lifter noise can occur for other reasons on a clean engine. Sitting for 5 days in the cold is one of those reasons. The oil drains down so much that the start is sort of "dry" and the cold makes it take longer to pump up the oil to the valvetrain.

Yeah no kidding! My car won't even start after 5 days. What you heard was completely normal.
