Understanding Beta Rating?

I have 2 Wix oil filter options for my '96 Trooper.

51334 has a Beta rating of 2/20=22/40

51356 has a Beta rating of 2/20=6/19

Which is the better beta rating and why?

# 2 is better.

2/ = 50%. So # 2 filters 50% of particles 6 microns and larger.
20/ =95%. So # 2 filters 95% of particles 19 microns and larger.

The second set of numbers in the ratio is where you would like to see lower numbers.

** Do you have or want to use a Wix? While they are great filters the Purolator Pure One filters better.

What's strange to me is why are two filters that supposedly use the same filtering media have different beta ratios? There's a big difference between 19 and 40 micron sized particles.

Assuming the can volume is consistent with media area ..the difference would probably produce that difference in filter efficiency ..and it may not be the same media

Here I assume the same media ..with an expected reduction in rate of return as you go bigger. Eventually you have quite a few more large pores in the distribution.
