Under $10 meal (less wine) from Lidl

Just moved to South Carolina and have a new to me supermarket, Lidl. Lidl seems a lot like Aldi. Lidl has a real nice in house bakery, but I think Aldi may have better overall food quality. That came across my mind when I saw Bar O Brand hot dogs at Lidl. I think those dogs are of such low quality they likely can't be served at prisons'.

Anyways, Perdue chicken breasts (on clearance because of date), truffle mac and cheese, and broccoli. Under $10 before tax and could feed a family of three. Chicken was dry rubbed with Trager chicken spice and cooked in a Trager pellet grill.

Nice easy meal, nothing to go crazy over.

I think Aldi may have better overall food quality

When I used both of these stores in Europe, I preferred Aldi. Lidl food quality (esp ready-to-eat foods) is definitely subpar. I was actually surprised that such quality was acceptable in Europe.

Aldi came first to our region. Lidl followed.
A story claimed the Aldi model allotted 17% of its floor space to non-food items while Lidl was closer to 25%.

One Aldi which went out of business was in Queensbury, NY right near a big Hannaford's

We have Trader Joes, too. Aldi in the US is owned by Aldi Sud. Trader Joes in owned by Aldi Nord. I also read there is another German grocery store coming to America but I forget its name.

Aldi has become the go-to place for me. Easier to get in and out (usually) and for the basics their price usually can't be beat.

I just wish their egg supplier would stop abusing the chickens. The quality of eggs has gone way down.

Yep. They're pretty popular too. My wife will go out of the way to go to Aldi/Lidl for certain items.

They were supposed to build a Lidl here in Roanoke Virginia but after they bought the property and got everything ready to build Lidl pulled the plans to do so. I guess they didn’t want to compete with Aldi here which is pretty busy always. My go to is Kroger I don’t see a big turn on for stores like Aldi, Lidl or Earth Fare or anything like that. I will say Aldi has some delicious peanut butter though.

Aldi 100%, the red bag chicken. Saved alot of money over Chik-fil-a popping those in the air fryer.

both lidl and aldi nearby. lidl wins: bigger. fresh inhouse bakery. free shopping carts. selfserve checkout. fresher milk, eggs, produce. slightly better prices. more and more helpful staff.

Lidl appears to be East Coast only for now.

I did shop at Aldi a few times, but for the most part they don't have everything that I usually buy, so I end up having to go to a larger grocery store for the remaining items, so that kind of defeats the purpose.

Trader Joe's awesome for a lot of things, but they don't sell everything so you still need to go to places like Safeway.
