Unauthorized oil change rant!

This exchange is getting a little rediculous.
Everyone of us has different quirks and thresholds for fraustration, anger, and the feeling of being violated.

On one side of the continuum one of us could walk back to the shop and go postal. On the other side, one of us could go back and bring flowers and candy and say thanks for a free oil and filter change. Assuming you weren't charged for unauthorized services.
I probably am in the middle. #@$%! but that's life!

You got a free oil change when you are about due, what are you complaining about?

Exactly, with all the wrongs in the world, I would not complain about this, perhaps other than the cost.

Go back to the serivce manager and say that you are not happy that they did this unauthorized oil change, and you simply want the funds back for doing it. Also let him know that if you were not so close to your OCI that you would want reimbursed for the Mobil1 that you use in the vehicle.

Let him know that it's things like this that have you more willing to change your oil yourself than to leave it to the folks at the dealership.

Maybe you can get a case of factory filters as your compensation, if you haven't already been reimbursed for your unwanted oil change.

Dang he's so upset he won't even wave back at me standing over here on the Indiana side of the Ohio.

Sorry dude! If you find me at Ceasars I'll make it up to you!

I like my money too much to enjoy handing it over to them. I do go there occasionally to eat at the buffet.

I can see a tech grabing the wrong work order, not reading the order, etc.. They did try to right the wrong, but still it is the principal of the thing. IMO, if you only have used syn oil with a high dollar since day one...I would have not driven the vehicle off the dealership until the filter/oil was replaced. But, if not, hey a free oil change. Just make sure they understand your not a happy customer. My 2 cents.

Somehow, a signature that says a Valvoline filter with whatever bulk #@$%! just does not sound as good as Mobil 1 T&SUV 5w30 with Mobil 1 M1-210. I can see why you are upset.

Same thing happened to me, almost. I had just changed the oil and the dealership changed it to whatever oil they used. The service manager called and they paid for oil and filter. I changed it myself. I don't know, that close to a change I wouldn't be too upset. If you tell the service manager about I think that wouldn't make much difference.

I remember reading that autozone sold oil change stickers much like they put on at the dealership and that could give them a better clue that it has been done.

Y'all would be exposed to an irate Old Coot RANT if it happened to me and I would belch loudly and likely flick a booger or two at any droid lambasting me and proclaiming I should be giddy with glee at having UNWANTED work performed upon MY conveyance.

Extra boogers at those with the spelling ability of the typical 8 year old I instruct.

IMO, I'd be slightly irked if my M1 oil/filter had been changed out without my prior knowledge. Actually I'd be, initially, more in shock that the dealer would have the gall to replace my premium oil/filter with lesser quality materials, what were they thinking? IMO, they need to right that wrong..cordially of course, arguing and screaming get you nowhere.

The worst one I had as the service writer did not write on the work order to use the oil in the trunk, so I changed out his Royal Purple for Motorcraft. Ooopss....

We changed it out again for free and even got another new filter to boot.

But it really depends on interval. If you had been 3K and they dumped it it was still perfectly good for 3K+ and whether or not you wanted to change it out or not. Have fun with it.

Throw a bottle of techron in the tank, seafoam it, and change the oil in 400.

if life gives you lemons...

I'm in the repair business.
We just can't do work without authorization in writing.
OK, sometimes for good friends we will perform NEEDED extras.
So, tell them to replace your costly M! and good filter. Tough beans on them.

The same thing happened to me recently. Took one of our cars to the dealer for various things and the word oil was never spoken. Sure enough they dumped the M1 and put dino in. When I called them on it they immediately put it back in the shop, drained the old, and filled with M1 5W30 and a new filter. They goofed but took care of it, let's hope your folks do the same for you.

The service manager called me today and offered to reimburse me for the cost of the oil and filter. Out of "karma", I told him that the oil only had another 100 miles to go but he insisted. I must say that I was annoyed at the unauthorized work (and wondered if they even checked what I asked!) but standing behind your work like that has earned my repeat business.

Its good that the service manager is willing to make things right rather than just telling you to go something impossible to yourself. I would be ticked also if someone messed with my car without authorization.

Now, why is it that so many of you are so willing to just roll over and take whatever abuse businesses want to heap on you? There is right and there is wrong and no one should have to put up with what is wrong, period! Walmart is one of the worst businesses in doing wrong to its customers and a good half of the public thinks no one should object because they are just trying to stop shoplifting. Just keep giving up your rights and see what you have left pretty soon.

Don

i would.

What I'm complaining about is the fact that they changed my oil without my asking. I'm certainly not going to run whatever they put in, or a Valvoline oil filter, for 5000 miles.

Giving up what? Many people would be happy if they took there car in for some work and got a free oil change. They say "Hey I needed to get that done, I'll come back for work on my car again!" There going to pay him back, big deal.
