Had waterpump replaced. Oil change needed?

Let me preface this my saying I'm not a mechanic. The only thing I do to my vehicles myself is change the oil. I have a 2002 Toyota Tacoma and had to have the water pump replaced under warranty. It was leaking. Anyway, the dealership did this with no issues. However, due to my ignorance, I've begun wondering if this could have caused antifreeze to get into the oil. Is this possible? I just changed my oil about a month prior to the repair with Mobil 1, so I hate to change it again so soon. However, if there is a possibility antifreeze got into the oil, I guess its better safe than sorry.

It's not likely that any coolant got into your oil and you should be able to tell this from looking at the dipstick. If you're in doubt though, maybe you could convince the dealer to change the oil under the same warranty claim just to be safe. I'm curious as to why the pump failed on you. Did they say why, and how many miles are on your truck? My 98 Tacoma V6 has the original pump although I only have 54K km on the truck.

I have never had to replace a Toyota waterpump. Better for to go bad now and Toyota pays it than later.

I wouldn't worry about changing the oil it should be fine.

Subject: Water Pump Replacement

When most water pumps leak,It's the seal on the shaft that goes.
There is a "Weeping" hole at the bottom front of the pump for the coolant to exit.
This will keep any coolant from backing up into the engine. Sounds like you had a defective pump from the get-go.

I posted a message on a Tacoma forum, and surprisingly found at least one other guy with a 2002 that had a bad water pump. Maybe they got a bad batch.
