ultra isnt selling up here

Seems like Ford is practically giving away Volvo. I don't think it's smart to help China dominate auto manufacturing. Eventually, they will be competing (on an unlevel playing field) against Chinese-made autos.

Of course if the average consumer can save a few 100 dollars on a China car, they'll buy it, even though that may mean they won't have much future employment opportunities. And the auto media will say how great and reliable Chinese cars are, kind of like what they do with KIA and Hyundai lol. That's my prediction anyway.

Would that they sold Chinese goods at a fair price. The Chinese Volvo will be $1000 less lol. That's how they usually do it. Just under cut the competitions price by a small percentage.

i dont think they stock edge in some stores in NH, only jugs left are in clearance for 26.50

I'd most defintely pay 1000 more bucks for a Swedish made car vs a chinese made car.... even if they were identical in every other aspect

I have three 5 qt. jugs of Ultra in reserve and will probably buy a few more in case it isn't selling well and WM discontinues it. I'm probably the only person in this town willing to shell out that much for oil. Seriously

Like Castrol Edge, Pennzoil Ultra high price at deep discount Walmart isn't selling very well, specially against cheaper and popular Mobil 1.

When they are available at Pep Boys, Kragen ... in few months and not selling well for price too high, you will see some sale/rebate in summer/fall.

I'd think that in general, Wally*Mart shoppers are looking for cheap.
So, seems an odd place to start marketing a new, upper-tier oil.
To me anyhoo...

I was in WM's oil aisle the other day and there was this guy with a cart with NINE jugs of PP in it. I jokingly asked him if he heard they were were going to quit making the stuff and he said no. He was a mechanic for a natural gas company and PP was what they used in all the company trucks. I told him I was going for the PU and he replied that the PP was an excellent oil and the PU was just too expensive no matter how good it was.

Around here upper-tier means Supertech oil and a Fram orange can from WM. Really getting ritzy means going to Napa and buying a Napa Gold filter and Napa brand oil. Speaking of which, my local Napa has Pennzoil on sale right now for $2.49/qt.

what hurts me is that people compare South Korea with COMMUNIST China. There's a huge difference in manufacturing and quality control practices between the two country.

South Korea is much different with China. South Korean technology is much advance compares with Chinese's. Samsung and LG makes some of the best HDTV's, Frigs, Washing machines ...

Agree with both of you.
I have Samsung LED TV, LG kitchen appliances, and other items.
Top-notch all the way.
My brother just bought a Hyundai Genesis, and it's amazing in quality and style.
Korea is what Japan was in the 80s. That is, a force to be reckoned with.

For it's price range PU is competing with M1EP. Limited market and
M1 has the loyal following. And I don't think the average Joe is impressed
with the clean engine hype. Most people thing the inside of engines are
supposed to be hot, greasy dirty places. They should have marketed it
for EP and as a great anti-wear oil. I'll be up for an OCI in 2 weeks, will
give PU a shot.

There will be a MIR on Ultra.
Count on it.
SOPUS is testing the market, as BP did with Edge.
You can always reduce the price of a product if it isn't doing well at a given price point, but it is very difficult to raise the price of a product that has become established at a given price point.
Edge was an attempt at a mass-market "super premium" oil.
Ultra is the same.
If SOPUS can move Ultra at its current price point, it will stay there.
Since this is unlikely, there will be MIR deals and price reductions, just as there were with Edge.

Saw two dirty workin class dudes in WM looking for oil. They picked up a bunch of jugs, including sopus, and after 15 minutes they walked out with Mobil clean 5k. PU is too pricey for 95 percent of diy oil changers.

Just wondering the same thing myself Johnny.
