I am trying to download the UBCD to a CD-RW so I can boot from that drive and figure out what the Hello is wrong with my POS ASUS.

When I go to their website, any link on that site gives you a bunch of junk, as in "buy the windows driver download for a mere $30."

I simply want the UB file on my CD so I can run it. That UBCD website makes no sense whatsoever.

Your more then likely not going to be able to fit a disk image on a CD. Either need a DVD or a thumb drive at least 4GB's depending on what OS you are using.

I personally recommend USB, I tried to make one for my new PC last night and my only DVD failed to burn correctly. Also if it's hard drive related Linux Mint just released a new LTS OS (altho it's having Wi-Fi problems). Its running Linux Kernel 4.2 so if your using a newer Skylake processor it can be hit or miss.

It's only 598MB. It is, after all, the Ultimate Boot CD.

The most common beginner's mistake is to copy the ISO file itself to the CD (you go to the CD and you see the somethingsomething.iso file).

The ISO file is kinda like a ZIP file; it contains a bunch of other files. You need a CD burning program that can interpret the ISO and burn all the files inside the ISO to the CD appropriately. BurnCDCC is a free, small, standalone program that can do this. When you look at the files on the CD, you'll see a bunch of files and folders.

Didn't see it mentioned, but I'm assuming this boot disk is usable on Win 7, 8.1 and 10 machines. Does it contain a bunch of trouble-shooting tools etc to help fix a messed up computer?

Been a while since I've had to deal with a machine that won't boot up, so I should probably prep myself for that down the road.
 
It'll boot up any non-ancient computer that has an Intel processor. The operating system that's installed doesn't really matter, because the CD circumvents it. You could technically use it on a computer that doesn't have any operating system installed at all, but that would be pointless.

If you download it, you can just right-click it and choose "burn image to disc" if you are using 7 or newer (may even work on Vista, can't remember). If you have XP you'll need a burning program like Nero or Imgburn as already mentioned.

As also already stated, as long as you have something x86 compliant that can boot from optical media, the disc will work. It doesn't matter what OS is or isn't on the machine.
 
So what's on this rescue disk that makes it useful? Bunch of trouble-shooting tools, anti-virus scanners, etc, etc?

Yes. Memory testing, CPU testing, is what I usually use it for. But it also has hard drive tools and password editors.

Wow. I feel like an idiot. I'm on Windows 7 Pro SP1 and I just checked and I can right click > Send To > Windows Disc Image Burner.

This is a game-changer.

I've never used it, just in past experience I haven't encountered a less then 700mb iso in awhile. Its pretty impressive actually, I know windows 10 is about 4GB's, Linux Mint is 1.5GB's, and Ubuntu is 2.6-3gb's.
 
I burned the UBCD .iso file to a DVD and it only used 602 MB of disc space.

Except it won't finalize a CD/DVD. So, not allowed to use at work. It'll close a session, but won't finalize.

When I burned the UBCD .iso file to DVD using Windows 7, I saw a message that said it was finalizing the burn.
