Does anyone know what 'rules' there are for labeling Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel pumps?

Im my area I have seen the pumps labeled that the diesel was NOT ULSD (and the appropriate warnings not to use in +2007 models) AND I have seen the pumps labeled ULSD (with appropriate usage noted).. Now the LSD pump has no label at all (except saying 'highway diesel'so I am not sure what they are selling..

Is there a rules that unless marked it is ULSD or unless it says ULSD it isnt?

just wondering..

Maybe highway diesel is for trucks? I didn't know there was a big difference? Hummm..then what is colored diesel? thank god I didn't buy a diesel I would have to sell it after the free dealer fill : )

The stuff labeled "not for 2007+" is either LSD, or possibly in the midst of a change over to ULSD. Obviously the ULSD is ULSD.

The highway diesel is a hold-over...you would have probably also seen "offroad diesel" or "reefer fuel" pumps somewhere nearby. That's a tax thing...highway has the tax, offroad and "reefer" is not taxed.

I would suspect any unmarked diesel pump is likely LSD, a mix of LSD/ULSD, or just out of compliance. Its pretty hard to find LSD anymore...seems to be a regional thing...I believe full change over is mandated for 2010?
