Uh oh. Trans about to go out?

Where are you located and how many miles are on the car? FWIW I've known two people with modern Malibus and they seem to be decent cars. Maintenance is very important with any CVT, though. I would get it done every 25,000 miles.

70200ish.

It hasn't done it the last couple of days. I'm still planning on getting the fluid changed. Just gotta call around and get prices.

I have a Certified pre owned warranty but the dealership has proven crooked. Tried to get to purchase 1800 bucks worth of brake parts when all I needed was shaved rotors.
I'm pretty sure you're not chained to a specific dealer if you have a gm CPO warranty. Go to a different one.

I just got quoted 225 for the fluid and filter change. Not bad. And I can't check the level, no dipstick.

Turns out this issue is normal. On cold days (low 30s) the first shift into 30s is a little jarring. If it drive somewhere (letting the car warm up) and shut the car off the jarring drive engaging goes away on the second startup. My guess is a coolant temp sensor sending feedback to the trans.
