U.S life expectancy by state

While this is true, we can look further into lower life expectancy, past when people die of disease that could have been cured had they had better healthcare.

When people spend a lifetime eating the SAD (Standard American Diet) full of fructose and processed carbs, they are very likely have have a shorter lifespan than those who eat healthy, regardless of how many Doctors they see and how many pharmaceuticals they use.

It is shortsighted to say that if people with poorer access to healthcare just had more healthcare, they would live longer. Some would, but I can imagine that some is a pretty small number.
When you bring diet into the situation that opens up a whole different problem we have in this country.

The sad reality is paychecks aren't increasing but food prices are by a lot, the cheaper food is more packed with junk ingredients, sugars, cholesterol, carbs, etc while the healthier food is more expensive so what does that do? it puts people in a bind, they have 2 options, buy the cheaper junk food to spread out further or buy much less healthier food and then go hungry further into the week or in the cases of those on disability, veterans or retirement benefits they could end up going weeks without food if they choose healthier food, all while the most they can get on food stamps is probably around $20 or not at all so they can't get help.

I agree with all but the cholesterols. We now know that ingested cholesterols do not end up in your bloodstream. However, we can make bad cholesterols by eating high processed carb diets. Some people just have bad genetics and product bad cholesterols.

This also doesn't mean that we have license to eat bad fats, like trans fats. That will raise bad cholesterol.

1) SSA's tables, charts and published information is often biased. AND the viewer must look, is the chart a projection or based on real data (the average age at death)? Remember, the SSA requires forecasting for budgeting, and shows lower mortality rates (per year) than the CDC's demographic projections, and is far lower than reality.

2) The OP's life expectancy map is for MEN and WOMEN combined. We are mostly men. Men live about 6 fewer years than W in the USA.

3) It is useful to know the average age at death for a mature American man. Was 73 during covid, is now 74-75.

Data mined from the CDC, average age at death:
West Virginia (among the shortest lifespans)
68.1
74.2

Massachusetts
76.9
82.2
Men die earlier because they choose to. ;)

I know 3 people who eat once a day. They do that to control weight - not bcs of affordability - but yeah - it certainly lowers the cost as well …
Lots of “poor” folks in America that are the size of the refrigerator they unload all day long …

We are NOT going political so watch the commentary closely.

Health is in the hands of people making smart and informed decisions. That’s on the person, not their state, their region, or the political leanings of millions of people in a state.

There’s also a trend of how much ice cream is sold and the number of vehicle deaths occur. People can find trends if they want to. The question is if they’re real and meaningful.

This is precisely how the scientific community screws itself over. I handle a lot of grants and funding. It’s amazing how the body of work proposed is magically at the amount of money that is known for the award, and the phenomena is magically aligned to some sound bite that someone made, or a document that aligns with strategy. Forget independent thought, people know how to please an audience by saying what they want to hear.

If you have a vendetta against religion, say, you’ll be looking to make a point there, forget any other causative factors. Great. You get $1.

IQ I don’t buy either. I’ve encountered some of the worst, dumbest folks with casual alignments to all factors I suspect you’ll say are markers of longevity and superior outcomes.

We see what we want to see. Sprinkle in some PC and we see only what we are told we want to see.
Dropped 🎤 awesome summary !

Cool...I think I was making the same point. My point was you can find an association between just about anything. Never said anything about anything being causal...just an association, which means nothing.
