Two track jeep alternative

Everybody loves their jeeps and that’s fine e but let’s talk about other options which would work well on two track and similar seasonal roads. Durability and even ride quality wise what compares or beats the jeep?

No need for hardcore mudding or rock crawling here.

BRoad was the intention! Want to see what people like and why. Size- like a jeep of course! 4L? Probably but negotiable in the right context.

Our FJ Cruiser is extreemly capable. It has an electronic locker in the rear axle too.

What age of vehicle are you looking at? Turn-key or project? 16 months ago I bought an 02 Wrangler that was a hot mess. Knew it going in, fixed everything it needed and now it's our daily driver and off road fun machine. The 02 Xterra is stock and will go anywhere you're talking about. A late production Xterra would be a sweet ride. The Trooper would probably leave an FJ or Xterra behind at some point.

I was looking at fairly new 4x4 vehicles and ended up with a Wrangler 4xe; the only other newer vehicles that I considered were the Bronco and D90. As far as older vehicles go I echo the recommendations of the FJ, Trooper, and Sahara.

Looking for new or used? I recall 4x4 mag doing a very favorable review on the Suzuki grand vitara, later generations, a decade ago. My stepdaughter has a 4x2 and it’s been an unusually reliable vehicle considering the less popular brand. We are considering buying it off her for a spare vehicle. It’s been run Out of oil several times and still goes….

Truth of the matter is most any 4wd/awd suv will be fine doing light duty on 2 tracks if the driver is careful. There's a saying in the 4WD world, no matter where you go someone has been there in an old Corolla.

Just shell out the money for an 80 series Land Cruiser (Triple Locked if possible) and forget about it.
I've been looking, but man, even with high mileage they are demanding a lot of money!
I suppose that's why they thrive in 3rd world countries, you don't need a parts store on every corner to keep it going.
Other than that, a Trooper like @RooflessVW has. A lot less $$$$ and very capable if you want something durable like a Jeep, but not a Jeep.
