Exactly. That piece came from the engine. You would have noticed it when you put the filter on.

Cut it open if you can to see if some pieces are in the pleats. If so they had to travel from the inlet side. I had a Fram TG with glue pieces which were without a doubt from the poorly centered fiber end cap/center tube interface. I will never use a TG or EG again. Afterwards I looked at other filters inside and found shoddy glue on many. Where is the DENSO man because that is what is going on daughters Toyota from now on, Toyota Denso. Wix seems to have the best QC of the USA makers as far as I can see. Maybe better yet is to use Mazda oil filters.
Most glue will probably stay put, but why would I, or anyone, buy probably?

This one?

That’s the one.

If the material is in fact excess gasket material I guess the filter did it’s job. Now just to worry and see if it ended up anywhere it wasn’t supposed to.

When things are oily they can look similar when not … clean up that piece and a small part of the filter gasket/area with Dawn or something that will remove residual oil … then compare …

The most important thing about an oil filter more than the marketing or some special ability is that is doesn't fail.

Will the longer M1-110 fit?

The Wix part number for the longer can is 57356, or Napa Gold 7356

I can get one next change and try, only issue would be it might rub on the belly tray but there might be room.

This Wix / NAPA filter is NOT for a SKYACTIVE engine. Only 57002 / 7002 is.

I’d like to say it was $9.

I hope the material wasn’t something from within the engine. God only knows what internal plastic/rubber component could be chewing itself up. I don’t know exactly what it was but it was long and thin. Pulled apart pretty easy. Ugggg

Looks like the robots mis-applied some sealant. I’ll take a guess and say it’s from the oil pan seal. Another good reason to change the factory fill out early.

Little sliver like that would probably hang out on the pickup for a while before getting sucked through.

That could very well be the case.

Looks like the filter did it’s job. Might not be Mobil’s fault.

Have seen larger resilient material pass through small orifices under pressure ...
and come back to original shape and size on the other side

You have a few years on me, but add me to the list with over 40 years of driving. I used a ton of OCD filters too, not one problem to report.

Well I guess I feel better thinking that the filter did it’s job. Just don’t like not knowing where the stuff came from or what it is exactly. I guess we play the waiting game for the next oil change to see if more arrives.
