I only have myself to blame for not checking....

I bought two rear rotors for my Silverado at Advance. I checked the part numbers on the boxes at the store, and checked that they both hadn't been opened before.

I got them home and opened them up... and they don't match.

Other than them being cosmetically different, is there any problem with using one of each?

These are not actual pictures of MY rotors... One has the same appearance as my old factory rotors... like this:

but on the other, the surface on the hat is rough, and has not been machined smooth, like this:

So... one of each. Other than them being cosmetically different, is there any problem with using one of each?

I'd take them both back and show them. Then keep the smooth one and get a new one to replace the rough one.

Probably the same rotor but from different suppliers or differing run of parts. If it bothers you, return or exchange.

I have actually had the same thing happen to me before. Got home and one was rough while the other was finished. I used them and had no problems. This was on a Buick Lesabre.

I'd keep the rough one since there's a lot more meat on the braking surface.

You're not paying attention. Read every word in my post. Those pictures aren't of my rotors.

I am paying attention. I'm just commenting on the pictures... just like everyone else.

Good bye. Onto the ignore list you go.

The silv has spoken .. harsh ... lol.
FWIW, I had similar happen to two sway bar links - same part number, but one had grease zerks and the other not. Both went on and perform fine.

I'm sorry folks... I must apologize.

Right now, I don't have the time, nor the patience to sort through responses, and to deal with irrelevant responses like the one from Bottom Feeder.

To be fair, it's more than him... it's a general trend that has developed on this forum, which I find incredibly annoying.

He hasn't figured it out yet, that I don't see his messages anymore.

The two rotors that I have, are IDENTICAL, except for the difference in the FINISH. Therefore, his comment was irrelevant.

Wow, you're making a bit too much of this. Why the drama if you 'don't have the time for it'? Why even point it out?

And I'm quite sure you're reading this. Cheers.

Unless one is forged and the other is cast.
To me you always put the "same" parts on each side of the brakes.
If the rotors look different, they are different. Why trust your life on different parts?

He might now

I guess I am on ignore now also

Hey let's try an experiment - if everyone requotes this, the OP will have to put all of BITOG on ignore!

I'd take them back and get a matching set. But then, I would also probably have purchased OEM rotors, as that's my usual practice, FWIW. I've never purchased rotors that didn't match from Ford

I imagine the same would apply to buying them from your GM dealer.

If you don't have time to read the responses, good or bad, don't make a post.
