Two Auto Rx Questions?

Question one:
I ran a 1500 miles clean on my 91' Lincoln, which was very dirty inside. I am now 600 miles into the rinse and I found out I need a new oil pan. I have been using used motor oil because it has been leaking so bad. I am having a new pan installed, and the mechanic will be flushing the engine with mineral spirits to remove any fallen debris that got into the new pan trying to wiggle it in. Just pouring it in and letting it run back out. So will I need to start the arx treatment over?

Question Two:
Regardless if I need to redo the treatment, my crown vic is very clean inside the engine. Can I take the 1500 mile auto rx oil and use it another 1500 miles in my lincoln? Understand that when done in my crown vic, it will still look like new because the engine does not blacken the oil.

The answers you will get is yes, redo the treatment, and no, dont use the used oil, get a new batch and arx.

yeah, the mineral spirits will most likely wash the ARX away. But on the bright side, there will be much less stuff left for the ARX to clean. I would suggest that you ask the mechanic to see how things look, and maybe try to clean some stuff up while he is down there. Get it out, so you don't have to waste ARX on it.

Thats what I was afraid of. Frank, how about your input? What do you think of this?

Question one: My thought would be no - if you're engine was "rinsed" or flushed with mineral spirits, the metal should be "clean". The Auto-rx cleaning would have set up much of the sludge for removal. (Good for you!)

Question two: Wouldn't that oil be filled with contaminants that would negatively affect your Crown Vic's V8?

how/why would anything "fall in" when the new pan is installed if cleaned properly?

Sounds like a wallet cleaning to me.

I hope your first statement is correct for my sake. However, you got your second statement mixed up. I would be taking my 1500 miles auto rx oil out of my crown vic which will look like new as the engine is not dirty and be putting it in my lincoln engine and running it another 1500 miles. The lincoln engine is a disaster inside.

The flush was my idea and I provided them with 1 gallon of mieral spirits. The oil pan is not an easy swap, and it needs to be wiggled in place and there is lots of stuff in the way that is caked with dirt. The car has been driven a few months with a leaky pan, so you can imagine wat it looks like underneath.

i'm sure it's no worse than my 92 galant was...there's no reason for the flush.

You don't want to use solvent chemistry for a flush . You never get a complete drain so now you have solvents in your crankcase. Smart thing is to use Auto-rx to clean solvents completely out. Why use them anyhow because there cheap ?

I am sorry you missed the point. I was unclear, I am having the oil pan replaced. To do this they have lifted the engine instead of pulling it. It will be a chore and lots of wiggling to get it up and over the frontal crossmember, so I assume dirt will be falling from the stuff in the way. I want them to simply flush mineral spirits thru the oil fill hole to wash any falling dirt out from the bottom of the pan once they have it put back together.

You certainly will not harm anything by running the mineral spirits straight through it. Any remaining spirits will vaporize once the oil gets good and hot the first time, so no worries. There's no guarantee you will be able to flush out all the #@$%! that may get in there due to the baffles, etc. Best to do some good cleaning on the engine lower externals and front crossmember area just before pulling the pan. This will help soooo much. Start out working clean, and you'll get lots less stuff dropping in it as you work. As far as using the same oil/ARX in the Lincoln after running 1500 miles in the Crown Vic, you could do that and it would not hurt a thing as long as you drain into a clean container, etc. But you may have tapped out some of the cleaning chemistry of the ARX and may not get as much cleaning on this run in the Lincoln. I have run much longer than the recommended 1500 miles on a few vehicles with good results. If worried about oil filter getting too full, just change it midway. Motorcraft filter for less that $4. Done. I like to get as much cleaning out of each bottle of the stuff that I can. That's my 2 cents.
