Turtle Wax Headlight Restorer Kit

I have had this for 2 or 3 years but never got around to using it. With the weather almost 60 in NY today I figured it was today or April. The kit has a spray lubricant, cream lens clarifyer and 4 grades of abrasive pads. You start with the coarsest going one direction and work up in grades changing direction by 90 degrees followed by the cream clarifyer. It took maybe 6 minutes a lens and that included calling the dogs back from wandering several times. The results were impressive. Not perfect, but very good for a first try. I got enough lubricant and clarifyer for 10 lens but the abrasive pads might dull. You can hear/feel when the pad has done its job and ready to move to the next grade of pad. For $10 and 20 minutes its well worth it. The other 8 minutes was spent reading the directions. Given this went so quick (and all by hand), I am not sure one needs a drill operated kit.

I used a turtle wax kit on my kids car in september and they are holding up well. I did use a wheel for some of the buffing.

The kit suggests car wax, is there something better? I have Ice Paste Polish I have been using for the Jeep's painted areas.

^Get the best sealant possible without the risk of leaving a smear, thus defeating the purpose. The best sealant applied properly will ensure they stay as much like they are now(post cleaning) for the longest amount of time. I'd imagine 1 coat of sealant every 3 years or so, as long as no build up and you clean them etc, b4 a re-application and you're good to go.

I have also used the Turtle Wax kit and had similar results, but forgot to put a sealant on. Even still, the lens were in very good condition 2 years after this was done.

IMO the best product on the market for this purpose. Includes a UV blocking sealant.

Seems a little pricey. Too bad they don't sell just the sealant. The kit says it contains an abrasive sponge pad. I would think one would need several levels of abrasive, then some fine polishing cream. The Turtle Wax kit had 4 levels of abrasive pads plus some polishing cream.

The Turtle Wax kit did a wonderful job on the headlights on my wife's car. I think it was a whopping 8 bucks at Walmart too! I highly recommend it!

I polished mine out a couple of years ago, but with continued exposure to U.V. I'm right back where I started. Today I noticed the Krylon Fusion spray paint for plastics has clear gloss with a U.V.inhibitor. After I buff it out again I will try this as a sealer for $4.95.

I've used this kit on a '97 Escort that had very bad headlights and it took forever to get a decent result. Went and bought a 3M assorted wet/dry sandpaper package in addition to the Turtle wax kit for a '97 Voyager and '00 Town Car . Started with 400 grit and worked up to 1500 or 2000 then used the Turtle wax kit and got great results with a lot less elbow grease. Really bad headlights just need some coarse grit to get down to good plastic, so from now on I will start with sandpaper and finish with the TW kit. I throw a coat of wax on the headlights every time I wash the car.

When you used the coarsest pad from the kit did it begin (after some use) to get easy and kind of sound a little different? Being that pad had done the rough areas and they were now smooth?

I ordered some 3M Cleaner/Protector from Amazon and will see how that goes. More for the protector than the cleaner.

I bet this stuff would work 50x better if you did a little 'pre' wet sanding on bad lights. Heck, if your lights aren't smooth after using then wet sand until smooth and then folllow directions.
