January 6th...

We normally get to April/May (winter) before needing the heater.

It's middle of summer.

Weird

Used mine in 2010 cos I was stuck in traffic and the engine seemed to be overheating.

Might be clogged by now

I just started turning on my car heater this month too. Unfortunately, I probably will stop needing it again in March.

At the moment I spend about quarter of my drive to/from work with heat on full. The other 30-40min it's at been at like 2/3 of full temp.

It's also been 10F lately. Might hit freezing today, so I ought to be able to turn down the heat on the way home.

I'm curious what the temperature was to need the heat on?
We have to get a few days of 12C highs with little sun to get the indoor temp to 16C which is our start a fire threshold.

Been in the single digits (F) the last few nights. My bedroom was freezing and the heater couldn't keep up with it. Ended up giving up on it and sleeping in the living room.

Took a look at it last night - turns out the outside pane of the sliding glass door (that goes nowhere but 20 feet down) blew off it's track and was letting all of the cold air in. Had to use a bit of alcohol to melt the frozen ice (was also frozen in place, of course) to bet it back together right. Was a bit warmer last night!

We have had a very mild winter here (and wet). We have only had a few frosts all through winter, with some overnight temperatures in double digits (°C). Compare that with 4 or 5 years ago when we had 7" of snow at the same time.

The benefit has been that our heating oil tank has lasted much longer, plus the cost of the oil has really bombed. When we first installed and filled the tank 3 years ago it was around 60p per litre (that's around $3.30/gallon). The last batch I bought was around 28p/litre (around $1.55/gal). This falling crude oil price is doing nothing for my stockholdings, but it sure helps heat the house and fill the car!

dropped a nice one this morning, cuddled my cat too at the same time, he loves the gas i guess.

Sort of the opposite here for us this winter. Normally the furnace goes on, at least briefly here and there, in early October with more full time use by early November. The furnace runs regularly from Late November through late March usually.

This year I really didn't have to use the furnace even part time until mid November. There were a few periods where it got cool enough to run it here and there but mostly it has been off. A good portion of December was 50-60 degree+ temps( 20-30 degrees above normal )so at most the furnace might have cycled once or twice in the middle of the night when it got cold. Just in the past few days, with the temps down near zero at night and barely in the 20's during the day, has the furnace been running regularly night and day. It has barely shut off the last few days = BRRR!

I have only used about 1/4 of a tank of oil to this point and normally I am having my 1st delivery of the year around this time( early to mid January ). Long range forecast for the winter is now showing a cold remainder of January but well above normal February and March with little snow. I will take it!!!

The heater in the car or in the house ?

I turned on heater in the car and in the house the last 2-3 weeks. We have colder weather earlier in So Cal this year.

The heater in the car is on about once a month in summer the first mile or so to circulate the coolant fluid. Same for A/C in winter, I turn it on for few minutes after driving some miles to circulate the freon.

'It's middle of summer'

^ Being in the Northern hemisphere, this has always seemed so odd. ^ LOL

Was about 11C most of yesterday here climbed to about 14C late afternoon, after three days of low teens and rain constantly...finally sucked the heat out of us.

Middle of December through end of January is where we get our 100F days.

Was the house gas fireplace.

That weather that hit Aust is coming over us the next couple of days...and the temps are going up as it does. Our highest temps are late Jan and Feb. What's that old worn out cyclone going to do?

I know it was raining a ton in Sydney, the Test match with the West Indies had 2 days washed out.

It's the last Saturday of my few weeks off, and I used the few really hot days this week to turn a small, not very productive part of teh garden into a nice place to sit...

And it's gone cold and wet again before I've had a single beer there.

The weather really is all over the place - we've just arrived home from a 2 week road trip to "the mainland". Stayed a week in Canberra (went to the Summernats), and the daytime temps varied from 21 to 39 over the course of the week. Then down to Melbourne for a week, where it was 43 one day, 18 the next...

For any Aussies who know about the Spirit of Tasmania 2 being out of action due to strong winds smashing her into the pier, we were lucky, our sailing departed as scheduled. We had friends who had to spend an extra night and half of the next day in Melbourne...with their caravan. Fun trying to find somewhere to park that in the CBD!
