Put New ATE rotor and Raybestos QS ceramic pads on my bmw 525i about 25,000 miles ago. Hardly any pad or rotor wear. However had a vibration when pressing lightly on the brake pedal. Then it started vibrating even under hard braking. They acted like they were warped.

I Had O'Reily auto parts turn them for $12 and all is fine now. They stated they took very liitle off. I then reinstalled with the same pads.

Why did the warp? I think it was the "monkey" at the tire shop where I have my tires rotated every 5-7,000 miles. I tell them to use a torque wrench at 80 lbs. I suspect they got the torque uneven or put 100 plus pounds on. Could also be water warped. Even so, I will try another brand of rotor next time.

The "monkey" could have done that for sure. I have learned that most BMW owners do not even rotate their tires as BMW actually recommends not to do so.

Are your ATEs vented?

What was the delta on the run-out before they turned the rotor?

I feel that exact vibration you are speaking of at present, but everyone has told me, and I have been learning, that my control arm bushings are gone/shot.
I have the new ones right here in front of me ... feeling too comfortable this weekend to want to start working on the car.

I have new pads and rotors to install as well as the warning light just went off ... I went with Zimmermans (vented & drilled) and Textar pads.

Rotors are ATE OE style vented and NOT drilled or slotted. I did not ask anything about the runout before they turned the rotors. I had never had rotors turned before. Sorry.

I have never had a problem with rotation on any BMW I have owned. I have 55,000 on these 225x60x15 Bridestone Turanza tires H rated tires and they seem to be wearing fairly evenly.

My upper control arms with BMW 750i bushings (AKA thurst arms) were replaced a year ago as I had clunking noises and the 55 mph vibration issue. Lower control arms do not wear as often on the e34. However, they do wear out. Mine seem ok at 139,000 miles. Hope this is of interest.
