Turn off the heater in the house

It looks like we don't need to use heater in my house for this winter. We had 80+ degree for the last 3 days and 70+ degree is forecast for the next 10 days. I turned off the pilot light in the forced air heater and unplugged the power cord.

Do you turn off the pilot light when you don't use the heater for several months ?

We turn off the pilot light on our gas fireplace in May usually, and it goes back on in October.

I did in our previous house. This one has doesn't have pilot light.

There may be a valid argument for keeping the pilot light lit in a humid climate so the firebox doesn't rust.

Ah ha, be careful! El Nino climate is unpredictable. I'm quite certain Calif is due for a couple more storms. I'm not putting away the extra blankets yet

I haven't had a furnace with a pilot light in quite some time. Up here in the north, hot surface ignition is more common.

Pilot lights are still on gas water heaters however.

I can't wait to stop feeding my woodstove. We have at least another month before I can let it totally burn out and clean it out.

in my humid basement in MI it is recomended to leave the pilot on to prevent heat exchanger rust, this is on a 30 year old furnace .

typically our company recommends leaving the pilot light on furnaces in basements, for wall heaters and space heaters well,, sometimes those can be a real booger to relight.

It really depends on the conditions where the heater or furnace is located, and the type of material the heat exchanger is made from.

We haven't had a fire for a few days now. Its a bit chilly in the morning but with the sun on the house, it warms up and stays pretty good until morning again... Passive solar for the win!
We will wait though for another month to clean the chimney though, no point in provoking the weather...

Turned the pilot off in my gas logs. We might get a few more frost days, but for the last 2 weeks It hasn't been below 40. I use the heat pump if it's above 40.

I just made it for the year. My 100 Gal tank lasted the entire year. There is just a little bit left in there.

Strech of 60 degree days here after the 8.5 " of rain we got last weekend - 20 deg above normal. I hear as soon as Spring gets here this weekend its gonna get cold again! Snows are still on the Yaris - that thing cant move in the snow without them, so on they stay till mid april.

I lived in Northern California one winter in a studio apartment. Just the pilot light on the furnace kept the place warm and cozy.
