It's tax season - yippee. I'm not seeing the $30 deals for TurboTax (Federal and State, after rebate) that I usually see. Have they raised their prices?

TurboTax can be done right online. No need for a hard copy of the CD. Same goes with TaxCut. I've used both over the years. They are all the same IMO. Go with which ever is a better deal.

I you can get one Costco has a coupon for Turbo-Tax Fed/State good for $15 off starting 15 Jan. This brings cost to about $20. I've used TT for years with no problem but to each his own. Good luck on your refund.

OK, got to learn... why not just do it by hand???

THis year I bought a house, but am not married yet, nor do i have kids, my own business, etc.

My parents have ALWAYS done it by hand. what is the point of using turbo tax for the average joe? is it THAT much simpler that it justifies $30 or whatnot? Sure, my per hour rate is more than that, but sometimes that turns into a silly reason to justify spending $$$.

Thanks,

JMH

I do taxes for a number of people. Online, you'd have to pay for each individual tax return, so I need the disc personally, then mail them in. For some of them it is daunting... like my mother who is retired and has funky investments. I once tried calculating by hand, but was sent into Pub, Form, and side calculation #@$%!. To me it is worth the money for software to take the pain out of figuring taxes.

I get the basic Turbo-Tax for about $20. Seems like W/M, Staples, Target, etc. all charge the same price.
The state form is easy enough to fill out when you have the federal forms to copy off of.

Lovely tax season. I pay ~$300 to file my taxes that my accountant typically finishes in about 45 mins. I own my own business so mucho forms.

I recieved a free copy of TaxCut last week. Yes, FREE. There has to be a catch. The disc cover says "Special offer, e-file for only $9.95, so that's probably how they're making money on it.

I'll bet the software dosen't have the ability to print, so the user is forced to e-file...? I'll check it out tomorrow and see.

You can print or efile, I have used it for years as a free down load. I don't buy the extras so for 8 or 9 years its been free for me. Plus for years I had rental properties and it was still free.

Guys at work usually pitch in and buy a turbo tax and pass it around. Last few years I've used the free TaxACT and it has worked well for me.

e-file with TurboTax costs $14.95 for the second, third and so forth. The first one is free with the $20 TT, basic.
Refund is in the bank account with in 10 days, so I'm not fussin' about the $20.
