What's the most abundant gas station company in Minnesota with Top Tier gas? I'm wondering because it seems like a lot of stations make some deal where if they can spam your email inbox with other companies' promotions or if you buy enough of their gas, you get some free or a reduced price in general.

AFAIK All we have is 1 or 2 shell stations in the whole state, a few mobil stations, about 5000 oil spill stations, and a kwik trip, which apparently has TT gas. But I don't really know.

Just in case it matters I know the few most abundant gas station companies around here:
marathon (I think that destroyed my friend's car once)
Super america
holiday
and like I said BP

There are 2 shell stations within 30 miles of me, Alexandria and Morris, and 3 bps, Alexandria, Benson, Morris. There are a LOT of BP/Shell stations in MN

And I live in the sticks, in the Metro they are abundant.

If you live south of the cites there are Kwiktrip stations that offer top tier gas and with the Kwik card there is a 4 cent discount on gas and a discount on in store purchases. Otherwise its BP, Shell...

There's some stupid little condo-town-thing about 3-5 miles from my house that's supposed to look like some old western town, and they dug a moat around it, for no apparent reason. And there's a kwik-trip in it. Think I should make it my place to stop?

And if so, do I just go in and pay and then if they don't ask, just say "Hey I heard something about a discount card or something..."? Or is there some other ordeal?

Never heard of this and I can't find anything about it online. Any supportive info?

Holiday sells Top Tier gasoline. Google top tier gas and check the retailers. It will be the most abundant station in MN that does. Kwik Trip and Shell are the other two with some presence. There are some Mobil and Exxon stations still left as well, but not many.

The Kwik Card is Kwik Trip's credit card. You will need to apply for one if you want that discount.

All that being said, the only gas I have ever had that was bad in MN came from a Phillips 66 (and that was a long time ago), and it was more likely the location than anything that had the issue.

I believe all the gasoline is coming out of the same refinery in Pine Bend MN.just south east of St.Paul. And they formulate it per brand spec. for the different distributors.

Gasoline in the Twin Cities can come from many different sources. Primary sources are:

Flint Hills Refinery in Rosemount (Used to be known as Pine Bend)
Northern Tier Energy Refinery in St. Paul Park (Former Marathon/Ashland refinery)
Murphy Oil refinery (Superior Wisconsin)
Tesoro Refinery in Mandan, ND.

Used to be a given that gas at Superamerica came from the Northern Refinery, gas at Holiday was from Flint Hills, and gas at Amoco/BP was from the Tesoro refinery. The BP agreement has since expired. Everything else is a guess on where it could be from, and a limited amount from other sources comes in via pipeline.
