Trying Rotella

I own a Victory Hammer (1634cc air cooled v-twin) motorcycle. I have used Amsoil and Mobil 20w-50 synthetic v-twin motorcycle specific oil with great results. Transmission shifting was smooth.

I am using the Shell Rotella 5W-40 synthetic with great results. No change in transmission shifting.

The 5w-40 RTS synthetic is definitely cheaper than Amsoil or Mobil. Why are you guys using the Rotella dino and not checking out the Rotella synthetic?

Check out the Victory motorcycle club website. They love the shell rts 5w-40 and the supertech filter. Our bikes call for 20W-40. I don't think I personally, would use the dino very far in my Victory. But the synthetic, I would use for at least 2500 to 3000 miles.

The dino rotella has very good uoa's and is more shear resistant than the syn rotella. Both are quality oils in my opinion. I have run both in my streetbike and run the dino in my dirtbike.
I just changed out the exxon superflo 20W50 for rotella syn and the shifting is certainly smooth, could be the fact that it is fresh oil too.

We both have different needs for our bikes, 2 different worlds. I run a low rpm (1634cc, red line at 5600 rpm) air cooled street bike with a shared sump. Even with the worlds best synthetic oil, I would not intentionally exceed an 5000 mile oci.

For safety, I usually stick to the 2500 to 3000 mile oci. That is why I like the economy and price of the RTS 5W-40. It also can't hurt to have an engine that is built like a tank. The Victory engine is a good one.

Some bikes and their high performance qualitites test the shear quality of oils faster than others. Higher rpms or revving, high speed long term riding, maybe too long of a oci for the driving conditions.

High RPMs? Nah... my 600 only has a 16k rpm redline.

I personally would not exceed 5k either. I normally go the same route, 2500-3000. Although I changed the superflo at 1000 cause i was itching to do my first uoa.
