Hi guys, this all started on Sunday on my way home from Walmart. I was at a light and my truck just stalled. Battery light came on, gauges went down, and the truck just shut down (Started right back up). It did it once before back in March, maybe? but it hasn't done it since. Yesterday it did it 3 more times and 2 more today. My engine light has been on for a week or 2 because, according to Big O, I need new o2 sensors which I haven't found time to do yet. Also, over the weekend I had the battery unplugged while I changed my serpentine belt, and moved alot of stuff around. Could either of those cause this? I want to get this taken care of before I'm in an accident. TIA!

You could have a dirty throttle body that your PCM hasn't learned to compensate for since disconnecting the battery. Cleaning is good.

If your "I need new oxygen sensors" codes are P0171 and P0174 (especially if you have both and not just one) you may have a vacuum leak or faulty MAF sensor and perfectly functional O2 sensors. Either of those two things could cause a stalling condition. Of them, a vacuum leak could also cause a surging idle and a faulty MAF could cause poor acceleration or pinging.

I am thinking the PCM may need to relearn.

Thank you guys, took it to Autozone today for a 2nd opinion and he showed me the codes on the computer, turns out I need an Idle air control valve, so I'll be replacing that later on today. Thanks again!

You might need to check the fuel pump module. They can cause stalling if they get rusty. Ford should have issued a recall a long time ago to address this issue. To gain access to the module you need to remove the spare tire. The module sits on top of the crossmember. The module usually fails if you live in rust belt area. All you have to do is inspect the module for holes / cracks caused by rust.

If your truck is the new body style 2004 it does not use an idle air control valve. The parts houses list both the 2004 F150 heritage and F150 new body style truck together. If your truck is the new body then it is fly-by-wire and the idle air control is part of the throttle body.

Now that you mention that and I look around, I see what you're talking about! AutoZones website does not seperate Heritage from new so I'll research a little more and talk to AZ when I go to pick up the part. If it does have something to do with the throttle body like you said, what part do I need to replace? Thanks!

Sorry for now answering sooner, I have been on vacation.

I believe on your throttle body, the TPS is available by itself. The aftermarket ones are wrong actually, and there is an updated Ford one to fix the problem you have. I think the part number is 6L2Z-9B989-D from memory, but I am not positive. Usually we just replace the throttle body since the job is actually cheaper because there is less labor involved.
