I have not ever had body work detract from my trade-in value. It wasn't even brought up.

Same here and one car was hit by a deer at 70 mph and later was hit in parking lot that crushed the rear passenger door jam. Work done at dealer body shop and traded in at same dealer a few years later. Never came up and body shop has a lifetime warranty on repairs. Both items were reported on the Carfax.

I hear you ss. Most of mine were basic paint and/or bumper repairs that I paid for myself, but some were on CarFax. Never a trade-in issue at all.

Honestly...I'm a little surprised they even called you! I'd expect them to just fix it and not say a word. Must have not been able to get the parts right away.

update: they gave a lifetime warranty for the paint job. I did not ask for anything else.
They fixed one problem with the driveline, but another problem still remains. taking it back next week. last time it stayed there for a month...

Agreed.

I had the stealership curb a wheel on my car at 800 miles! They denied it of course, setting up a nasty fight.

I don't trust them any farther than I could throw them...

About 15 years ago, we had a similar experience with a corporate vehicle while it was the dealer for its first oil change.

We got a call from the dealer's manager saying the vehicle was in a minor accident and needed to be painted and few dents pulled out. We gave the OK and picked up the car a few weeks later. The car looked liked new and the person picking it up didn't notice anything wrong with it. However, the first person to use it on a project noticed that neither back door closed properly.

It turned out the car had fallen off the lift and had major frame damage. The dealership apparently thought that since it was a fleet vehicle, we wouldn't notice or care.

I'd be very nervous if a dealer called me and told me my car had been damaged. I'd have to look at it first or get a 3rd party to give it a once over before agreeing to anything.

I think its a little farfetched to expect a new truck for a scrape....if a typical citizen scraped the bed of the truck, would anyone here really expect to get a new truck out of the deal?

I think you did the right thing stockrex by asking for a lifetime on the paint. Maybe they'll now be able to repair whatever else is wrong with your truck since they see you're a reasonable person and they will be willing to take their time with it.
