So this actually happened like a week ago, but I haven't gotten around to posting about it till now because of school starting and work and everything. So mom came out in the morning to go to work, and she sees this stuff on the door, but doesn't make any connection. Then she opens the door, and sees everything thrown everywhere, and what she finally realizes is Blood, on the steering wheel. At first, she thinks it was me, that i somehow cut myself and made a mess looking for something. She calls me (I'm asleep at the time) and asks "Why the [censored] is there blood on my truck?".

I'm still half asleep at the time, but I quickly realize something isn't right, and tell her not to touch anything and just to wait for me to come outside. So I go outside and sure enough, there is blood on the door, steering wheel, and stuff thrown hither and yon. Nothing was taken. Didn't take the GPS, FM transmitter, or anything. Just made a mess and left apparently.

Our theory is that the would-be thief cut themselves trying to pry the door open, or something. State Trooper came out, took a report, but since nothing was stolen and there was no actual damage to the vehicle, there was nothing he could do, except have extra patrols in the area. A couple months back someone mutilated the latch on our shed trying to get into it. It's a good neighborhood, people look out for each other, and this seems to happen about once a year or so, a rash of vehicle break ins. Last year someone had a bike and stuff stolen right from their garage while they were at home! Scary stuff.

Any OJ sitings in the area?

Thought they would at least take a sample for DNA purposes.

Collect a sample and keep it for future use if something else ever happens and you are looking for potential individuals to connect the dots.
DNA evidence keeps for quite some time.

Just a thought.

They must have been hoping to find some cash. I know of people keeping an "emergency" stash in their car. How the heck did they pry the door open without damaging the truck? That's what I want to know...

We have no idea. It was locked but the alarm wasn't set (dad had locked it with the keypad last night).

Wow, they must have been very desparate to break into a car when it's freezing cold out and snow on the ground like that. The blood could be there because they cut themselves on your Mom's car or some other car they hit in your neighborhood. Dirtbag punk wanna-be gangsta's will often target multiple cars in the same area in the same night. It wouldn't hurt to ask around at some of your neighbors.

It looks like they just didn't find anything worth stealing, such as cash, an Ipod, cell phone, etc. so they moved on to another victim. It's a surprise they didn't take the GPS, they probably just didn't see it if they were too busy ransacking through the console storage box.

You should sterilize that car with bleach or whatever chemical that will clean it and not damage anything.

Wow -- that's very nasty. Glad to hear no damage was actually done. That's odd they went through all the trouble, but didn't actually take anything. Maybe they were looking for a rag/kleenex to stop their bleeding? Very strange. I bet your mom is spooked. Stay safe. Get a dog + security light

Wait.... a.... second....

Your mother's vehicle sits out in the cold and the snow, while your Focus sits in the garage?

Please tell me that I've got this wrong.

Sorry to see that! Tell your mom to clean up the car and not leave change sitting in that cubicle. That is probably what attracted the thief in the first place. JMO.

Well this is a wake up call...

Get all the valuables out of the car! Eg. Ipods, CD's, anything that would be missed if it were stolen.

I can clearly see some kind of fingerprint in the pictures (albeit bloody).

A crime was committed - somebody broke into the car. Thats tresspass to property, isnt it?

Either way, Im glad to hear the truck wasnt torn up or things werent stolen. Im glad nobody got hurt too!

EDIT: I should add that a ring of young men were just busted in my area (heroin addicts) breaking into cars and houses and pawning the stuff to fuel their habit. While I dont know if this happened in your area, you did mention somebody mutilated the latch of your shed a while back. Could very well be a neighbor or somebody in the immediate area who knows what you've got $$$

I would have the entire car detailed at a detail shop.

Hopefully the person who did this will get a nasty infection and loose a finger or worse.

There isn't room in the garage for the truck, not with the mustang in hibernation for the winter.

Like I said this happened about a week ago. We windexed the heck out of everything, and now diligently set the alarm every night.

I have opened vehicles by pulling the top of the door open enough to shove something down in there and hit the electric unlock button.

I'd be walking around asking everyone for a HIGH FIVE.

Also, what person breaks into a car in that kind of weather? You guys have some dedicated misfits up there. Nobody commits crime around here during inclement weather - they are just too lazy.

As far as diseases go, seeing it's cold, I highly doubt AIDS could live past 20 seconds in that cold. Hep-C is another concern, but nonetheless, even though Hep-C can live for days outside a host, with these temps, it doesn't stand much of a chance. Scary thing is needle sharing junkies are likely suspects for a quick smash and grab.

They probably had a slim jim, seeing as how the door and weather stripping are not damaged and the glass is all intact. A piece of steel in cold weather like that can get slippery and I bet the dirtbag crook probably slipped on the icy ground and lost his footing or pushed down hard on the slim jim and his hand slipped and the edge of the tool cut his hand. From the area of placement of the blood on the door and steering wheel it looks like he cut his left hand.

I saw more than my share of cars that had been broken into during my career in car audio and alarm installation. I had to put back together and reinstall new radios in plenty of cars that had been hit by dirtbag criminals. It's not uncommon for the punk dirtbag thieves and/or dope addicts to cut themselves when they break into a car. They get cut trying to break the dash out to steal a radio too, broken plastic has some sharp edges on it. Even after all this time I still get disgusted when I see a car that was broken into. You and your mom are lucky they had a slim jim and didn't just heave a brick through the window or shatter a window with a hammer. On some cars they can punch out the door handle/door lock key cylinder and get in that way. All of which can be repaired but it counts as a claim against your car insurance comprehensive coverage, and usually carries a deductible.

Glad to hear the vehicle wasn't damaged while the [censored](s) broke into the Expy and nothing was stolen.

I would just say get some good outdoor security lights with the motion detectors and maybe a decent alarm or use the factory alarm.

I have cliffords in both vehicles with interior motion detectors and tilt sensors set to go off with a VERY annoying horn sequence and police siren. So far I've never had a false alarm and only has been set off in our driveway when the neighbor's kid was tossing a football with friend. Thunder storms don't set it off either.

When something goes bump in the night I would want a clear visual and audible warning, especially if I was home and the intruder(s) were on my driveway breaking into my vehicle.
