I have a 'new' 84 Toyota Pickup (this truck has been stored almost all it's life and has never seen rain) I will be using the truck for general haulage, and wish to protect it's bed. I have been advised that Drop in liners can promote rust in wet environments, plus it may be hard to find one for what is now a 22 year oil truck. I'm therefor considering a Spray/Paint on liner. Anyone have recommendations?

I should have gone with a Line-X. Rhino is Ok but fades quickly.
Has anyone had experience with any of the DIY products like Durabak or Herculiner?
Most of the DIY stuff is so thin it affords little real protection from dents. If you're not going to be using it rough eough to dent, you don't really need a liner! Spray in, it's realy hard to beat "Husky Liner".

I'm not too concerned about dents, my last truck survived 16 years with only minor dings on the wheel arches. I mainly want to help prevent scratches (that will lead to rust) and prevent stuff sliding around too much,

Yes there is a Line-X dealer not too far away, I will check them out in the week, I'm just a little afraid what they will charge! I am also on the lookout for a Canopy that will be installed during the winter.

When I owned my 1998 Chevy K1500, I had Line-X spray the bed, up over the tops of the rails and the tailgate. IIRC, it was about $400 and that was 7yrs ago. It is the best looking spray on and cargo does not slide easily on it. I gouged the tailgate with a heavy item. Line-X re-sprayed it free, no questions asked. Having owned trucks with drop-ins and spray-ons, a drop-in does afford you more 'shock absorbing' capability. Especially on the sides and wheel well humps.

When I bought my Dodge PU I put a drop in liner in. I didn't have a rust problem, but stuff gets under it. Last fall I replaced it with Line-X. My son did he Ford Ranger this August. The best price we found was in Milwaukee, Oregon.
There used to be a kid driving around Long Island in an older Ford pickup that was entirely painted in Line-X. It was even two toned. Looked kinda cool.
We took the bedliner out of my son's 92 F150, and it had a nice collection of debris under it that has kind of fused with the paint in areas. Scotchbrite got it off, but now we're at a loss at how to layer the finish for the deepest shine.... :^)
Wait until the bed gets beat up, then spray in a liner to make it look new.
That's just plan I came up with last night. in the mean time I will just lay a sheet of plywood in the back to take the brunt of the abuse
