Trickle charge question

I was wondering. Do you have to disconnect your battery on your lawn mower if you put a small battery maintaner auto trickle charger on it for the winter months? Is it better to disconnect it? I know your not suppose to hook up a charger on the new vehicles with all the electronics but will it hurt a lawn mower?

It will be fine. Lawn equipment isn't computerized - yet.

I'm sure I'll see pushmowers with closed loop EFI, EGR, and a catalytic converter before I die. Dadburn EPA!

They have no concept of diminishing returns, they just want to justify their own existance.

Trickle chargers are designed to be able to hook up without disconnecting from the vehicle. I would highly recommend that you consider using a battery desulfator rather than a conventional trickle charger. You can get them (and learn about them) at www.pulsetech.com and several other websites. The cheapest that I've seen is at www.batterymender.com

These desulfators not only keep your battery charged, but actually break up the sulfate crystals that cause a battery to go bad. I've actually taken dead batteries and brought them back to life with these things. I currently use it on my garage queen (Honda S2000), but occasionally move it over to my lawn mower and generator battery.

Thanks a ton. I really need to put one on my 65 Impala SS's battery. It doesn't get used much in the winter months. Matter of fact I was just on the Year One web site. Dreaming of all the great things I could be getting for it. Now to go to South Carolina or Virginia and play the lotter.
