I live well off a paved road. The dirt road ends at my house. I have 7 no trespassing signs on my road. I just had some numnut that's obviously had a lifetime of bad life decisions drive into my yard! I figure anyone going this far out is up to no good.

Fortunately he named a person that I recognized and was just lost. But to go past that many signs?

He technically wasn't trespassing since he was lost.

You have "pubic access" and a stranger does not have to leave property, until you tell them, if they refuse then cops arrest.

You need a fence and a gate. Signs every 60ft and purple paint on trees. Close off "public access"

A good starting point might be "it might be a person in need"

Maybe his tomtom told him to 'drive to the sticks and watch for the surly guy with the fake gold ore car"

I broke down in rural NE PA years ago (per cell phone), hiked to a house by an overpass and the guy let me use the phone to call AAA

its not public access. Its private property once you leave the street. With signs. I have 2 gates. They just run through them.

Being in the desert, can they easily drive around your gate? If not, just get a heavy chain and lock attached to 2 steel beams/ rails sunk in the ground. Also a sign reading "road is spiked, you will lose your tires"
helps.

People that are walking cut across my land every now and then. I don't have any no trespassing signs up yet, but I have been pondering it.

Around here(with no signs) a trespasser gets a warning to leave, and if they leave it's all good. If they don't, they can be arrested. If signs are up, and they trespass they can be arrested.

Sounds like you need to change something; either your attitude or your signage...
It is a nice discriptor .

The bigger implication of trespassing signs is liability. If the land around your house is large enough that someone could cross it without knowing they are on private land then signs and fences are a wise decision.

We live in a jealous and litigious society and someone who injures themselves on your property could sue you if you didn't make a reasonable effort to mark off the land as private.

As for strangers who ignore signs and walk up to your front door... Don't be rash but also be on good terms with your local sheriff who would gladly escort them back to public land.

His home could possibly be a target for break-in. No trespassing signs are just a friendly way to say...Stay off my expletive(your choice) land....

I loaned our lake cottage to a friend; who woke up to find someone fishing off our dock. some people simply have no respect or common sense.

Trespassers do it on purpose.
I had to ask about a dozen people to leave my property during hunting season. They know that the game warden would take about an hour to show up and the local law would take 45 minutes minimum. By that time, they would be long gone.

My Grandfather has a cattle ranch with a locked gate about a half mile from the paved public road. He once drove up to find a couple in the act and the guy said "can't a man make love to his wife anymore?" My grandfather said yes but not on my driveway.

This would be perfectly legal in Indiana since you don't own the water.
