Hi All,

I just saw this Car and Driver article that said Tremec developed one of their 6-speed manual transmissions that will be a bolt-on for the Current Generation C8 Corvette. If I had the money I'd get a C8 Z06 or ZR1 swapped with this. Should've probably been a 7-speed like in the C7. According to GM the reason that the C8 didn't get a manual transmission was the fall off of the take rate on the C7. It started off at 75% manual 25% automatic. But the last couple of years saw that number swap. I'm not sure how the electronics would work.

I think you should maybe re-read the article.

Tremec is offering a 6-speed manual transaxle. Dimensionally, it is the same as the Corvette (and Mustang GTD) DCT. It is not for the C8 though.

As noted in the article:
There are still some details to be sorted out, like cost, release date, and solving the other conundrums of a manual swap (namely, convincing the car to forget its phantom-limb automatic transmission)

If it were for the C8, these "details" would be solved. To highlight this, you only have to go as far as Tremec's own press release:

Outside the sentence that it was based on the C8's TR-9080 DCT, there's no other mention of the Corvette. Magazines added this part to their social media posts simply as clickbait. They knew it would drive engagement, even if it were far off from reality.

Reality is, this is intended as a new option for high-power specialty-built mid-engine cars that are otherwise currently using Getrag or ZF transaxles, without resorting to uber-expensive and exotic race car pieces like Xtrac.

When this transmission is introduced, every manufacturer of GT40 replicas will have one at SEMA with this trans.

Where would they put the shifter?

Those C8 automatics shift so nice I would prefer to keep it original. That first to second gear shift on a C8 is amazing. There are a lot of manual transmission lovers out there.

It still says it will bolt up as it uses the same mounting points and is the same dimensions. This is a huge start. For the people that said it couldn't be done check out the guy that manual swapped his 911 gt2rs. Yeah it cost $45,000 to do it but a 911 gt2rs was $293,000 for the 2019 model. The article lays out how they overcame various electronic issues.

At least they went with a dct. I've driven a few smg and numerous dct over the years. BMW cheaped out when they started putting zf torque converter automatics in their M cars.
